I'm addicted to collecting cover versions of songs I like. So rather than trawl through iTunes and Google I thought I'd ask you lovely lot to recommend good cover versions.
Paul's recently introduced me to West End Girls and I've rediscovered my love of Pet Shop Boys, and especially how much I adore You Only Tell Me You Love Me When You're Drunk.
So, what good cover versions of good songs are out there that I don't know about?

Off the top of my head are:
Iron & Wine 'Such Great Heights' (Postal Service) lostprophets 'Cry Me A River' (Justin Timberlake) Girls Aloud 'Stay Another Day' (East-17) Slick Shoes 'Candy' (Mandy Moore) M.I.A. 'Every Day I Love You Less And Less' (Kaiser Chiefs) Ordinary Boys 'All The Things She Said' (tATu) Most of Mark Ronson's 'Version' album is ace.

Obscure goodies: Scarlet's version of Aimee Mann's Stupid Thing Alisha's Attic's version of Suede's Still Life Roxette's version of Help Terry Hall and Marijne van der Vlugt doing Dream a Little Dream
Live Lounge goodies: Girls Aloud doing Rehab Arctic Monkeys doing Love Machine Jamelia doing Numb
Funny though a bit ropey: Fuzzbox doing Bohemian Rhapsody and Spirit in the Sky William Shatner doing Common People and Lucy in the Sky Bananarama/Lananeeneenoonoo doing Help Cliff and the Young Ones doing Living Doll Mike Flowers doing The Beatles' uselessfest Free as a Bird
All time classics: Tom Jones/Cerys doing Baby its Cold Outside Candy Flip doing Strawberry Fields Kylie doing Locomotion Sinead doing Nothing Compares 2U Dr and the Medics doing Spirit in the Sky Erasures Abba-esque ep

I'll sit down and go through my ipod later, but I think my favourite cover version is 'Hounds of Love' done by The Futureheads. Also, 'What You Waiting For' performed by Franz Ferdinand in Jo Whiley's front room is a bit good.

Mandy Moore's covers album (Coverage) is surprisingly ace - I especially like her versions of 'Drop The Pilot' and 'One Way Or Another'.
Also: The Cardigans - Sabbath Bloody Sabbath Picturehouse - Sweet Dreams My LA Ex Hilary and Haylie Duff - Our Lips Are Sealed No Doubt - It's My Life Nicole Richie - Dandelion Pay TV - Material Girls Shampoo - House Of Love Sophie Ellis-Bextor - Yes Sir, I Can Boogie Sophie Ellis-Bextor - Physical t.A.T.u - How Soon Is Now?
I'd also like to second all three of Rad's Live Lounge suggestions. Jamelia did 'Numb' live in concert a couple of years ago and it was even better that way.

The Zutons have done an alright cover of Take your Mama Out, I've got Franz Ferdinand's cover of Mis-Shapes by Pulp as well (it does just make me want to listen to the original though).
Not really unheard of covers, but I really like I Just Don't Know What To Do With Myself by The White Stripes, Feeling Good by Muse, It's Not Over Yet by Klaxons, and A Little Respect by Wheatus.
Such Great Heights by Iron and Wine is great. I've never heard the original, so I've not much to compare it to, (I actually didn't realise it was a cover until about ten minutes ago) but is great nonetheless.

I second Steven's Nicole Richie and tATu suggestions. I prefer both of them to the originals, especially tATu's version.
Tacye, definately get Postal Service's album 'Give Up' which is easily a top twenty album ever for me. If you liked Some Great Heights, I can't imagine you not loving the rest.
On that note, Postal Service's cover of Phil Collins' Take A Look At Me Now is lovely.

On that note, Postal Service's cover of Phil Collins' Take A Look At Me Now is lovely. More lovely than Mariah's version? I've probably sent these to Sean already but my recommendations are these: Sinead O'Connor's Chiquitita Laura Michelle Kelly's Somewhere Only We Know and You Do Something To Me Lola Dutronic's Walking On Sunshine Dubstar's Jealousy and St Swithin's Day Cher's The Sun Ain't Gonna Shine Anymore Voice Of The Beehive's Sit Down Will Young's Your Love Is King Kylie's If You Don't Love Me Billie's The Tide Is High Dana International's Woman In Love Kenickie's Save Your Kisses For Me My favourite Live Loungers are: The Magic Numbers' Take Me Out Athlete's If I Ain't Got You Starsailor's Push The Button and of course Travis' take on Baby... One More Time

Billie's The Tide Is High Kenickie's Save Your Kisses For Me Yes! These are both awesome, Billie's for the rap in the middle ("I'm like, shoot, what's that song again? / 'Do you have a girlfriend?'") and Kenickie's for the way it ends. (I remember them explaining it on A Song For Eurotrash and describing how it's an incredibly sinister song.)

Sophie Ellis-Bextor - Yes Sir, I Can Boogie Sophie Ellis-Bextor - Physical I didn't know SEB had covered these. I know Alison Goldfrapp done excellent versions of both, are you confusing her and Sophie?

Well, if they're both as good as Goldfrapp's versions then I shall seek them out and take a listen.

Marilyn Manson always does good covers if you like that sort of thing, notably Tainted Love, Sweet Dreams (Are Made Of These), Like A Virgin and This Is Halloween (from Nightmare Before Christmas).

I had no idea Nerina Pallot did Confide In Me. I have Ben Lee's emo version of it. I've only heard her live version on YouTube. It's interesting but obviously doesn't touch the original. There's also a video of Adam Ant doing a fucked up and quite rubbish version of Wannabe on Youtube. It makes me sad though, as he's a bit of a mess on it.

System of a Down doing "The Metro" by Berlin is a favourite of mine.
Also, here's The Postal Service's version of "Against All Odds", and their original version of "Such Great Heights". I love The Postal Service, maybe a wee bit too much.

Wheatus – A Little Respect Jools Holland & The Stereophonics - Revolution These (the ones I've heard) are all great. I especially love The Killer's doing Romeo and Juliet: the way Brandon Flowers yelps 'Juliet' makes me feel a bit funny inside. I'm very fond of any of Rufus Wainwright's covers. Across The Universe and Hallelujah are particularly lovely. Although the best cover version of Hallelujah will always belong to Jeff Buckley. And Neil Tennant does a tremendous version of The Smith's There Is A Light That Never Goes Out. Makes the whole thing sound like a grand event. Oh! Talking of The Smiths covers, I also downloaded Muse doing Please Please, Please Let Me Get What I Want. That's very good, too.

It's the way he sings ''my boyfriend's back'' which I like. Here we are: I may have to itunes it, since I think they used it as a B-side.

Tori Amos - Smells Like Teen Spirit. Might be sacrilegious to some but not to me! Nor me. Tori takes a boring song and turns it into something very beautiful. I'd rather listen to her than Kurt Cobain's mumbling dirge any day. I've thought of a couple more. Aimee Mann sings a lovely version of The Scientist by Coldplay, and Howie Day has done some really good live covers: Don't Dream It's Over, Slide (by the Goo Goo Dolls) and The Drugs Don't Work among them. Howie is a bit of an idiot, but he does make pretty, growly music, if you like that sort of thing.

I agree with a lot of the ones mentioned so far, in particular Muse- 'Feeling Good', Futureheads- 'Hounds Of Love' and Jamelia- 'Numb'.
I like these as well:
Foo Fighters- 'Baker Street' (Gerry Rafferty) Reel Big Fish- 'Take On Me' (A-HA) Muse- 'Can't Take My Eyes Off You' (most famously done by Andy Williams) Nightwish- 'Phantom Of The Opera' The Beautiful South- 'Les Yeux Ouverts' (French language version of 'Dream A Little Dream Of Me', most famously done by Mama Cass) Audioslave- 'Seven Nation Army' (The White Stripes) The White Stripes- 'Jolene' (Dolly Parton) Goldfinger- '99 Red Balloons' (Nena) The Flaming Lips- 'Can't Get You Out Of My Head' (Kylie Minogue) Beverley Knight-'Angels' (Robbie Williams) Denise Van Outen- 'Gimme Gimme Gimme' (ABBA) DJ Sammy- 'Heaven' (Bryan Adams) Angel City- 'Love Me Right' (originally 'Oh Sheila' by Ready For The World) Brandy & Ray-J- 'Another Day In Paradise' (Phil Collins) KT Tunstall- 'I Want You Back' (The Jackson 5) Ladies First- 'I Can't Wait' (Nu Shooz) Monica- 'Angel Of Mine' (Eternal) No Use For A Name- 'Fairytale Of New York' (Pogues & Kirsty MacColl) Kirsty MacColl- 'A New England' (Billy Bragg) and 'Days' (The Kinks) Smashing Pumpkins- 'The Joker' (Steve Miller Band) Nancy Sinatra- 'Let Me Kiss You' (Morrisey) and 'Bang Bang (My Baby Shot Me Down)' (Cher)- the one used in Kill Bill that is, not the terrible Audio Bullies remix.
