She looks like Cleopatra, being carried out on the stretcher.

She's an adult. What are they meant to do? Her parents are and always have been beyond useless and have used her to make as much money as they can, her friends are all on her payroll so they wont say anything and the courts can't do anything because she's not actually done anything to warrant their involvement of her life.

I feel really sorry for Britney, for her whole situation. To see all that unfold yesterday was horrible, she didn't even have anyone with her

Britney Spears is clearly very seriously mentally ill. She isn't in a fit state of mind to look after her children, but Kevin Federline would appear to be no better. It's so sad to watch someone deteriorate like that, and along with Amy Winehouse, I don't think it would surprise anyone if she either overdosed or killed herself. She needs serious help, and although I actually think her new singles are good, it is soooooooo selfish and unfair for her record company to keep putting out singles when she clearly should be in respite.
It really really really annoys me when people who don't know anything about her life say she's a tramp or whatever. I don't know Britney, I can't say what she's like, all I can say is I feel sorry for her, and worried, as that's the nature of the press today, they make you feel like you know someone when you know shit all about them. The way the press villify successful women who don't follow their prescribed rules of what makes you a good young woman (i.e. they like to drink, take drugs, shop, whatever) in the way they have done with Britney, Lindsay Lohan, etc, whether you think what they do in their own time is ok or not ok, only serves to worsen their condition, it's really really horrible and really really sexist, you'd never see an equivalent male put through that.

Well, to some extent they have done the same to Pete Doherty and Blake Fielder-Civil, the main difference being they are not portayed as hysterical and being deemed 'poor' in the way women are

PD and BFC are being vilified for criminal activities, though, not just their personal lives.

On the surface it seems like the ideal time to have Piece Of Me out as a single - except that the song is about her poking fun at a Britney-obsessed media, and her real-life situation is far beyond a joke now. Not to mention the fact that 'I can't see the harm in working and being a mom' rings pretty hollow from someone who doesn't appear to be doing much of either. I hope she gets the help she needs.

It really really really annoys me when people who don't know anything about her life say she's a tramp or whatever.. Britney Spears is clearly very seriously mentally ill. Michael Jackson has been vilified as much as Britney for his parenting skills (dangling your baby over a balcony is slighly worse as driving off at speed with your baby on your lap), and George Michael the same for his sexual and substance habits. And let's not discuss John Leslie. And you could go down the other extreme of sexism and far from saying that women are vilified more than men for their actions, you could say that the media victimises them because of it. Poor Whitney bring turned into a crack whore, Bad Bobby for turning her into one. Poor Amy for being turned into a crack whore, Bad Blake for turning her into one. Poor Kate for being turned into a crack whore, bad Pete for turning her into one. From some of the reporting you'd think they were tied down and forcibly injected with crack. (And while we're at it, Poor Britney, high on drugs and locking herself in the bathroom with her one year old child. The only difference with her and Kerry Katona's behaviour is that Kerry has better PR on her side.) And regarding "prescribed rules of what makes you a good young woman", driving your car when high on drugs doesn't make you a good person, whether you're a multi million recording artiste or an underpaid postman, and refusing to accept the consquences as Lindsey and Paris have done has contributed to their bad press, not them just being single young women about town. They seemingly take no responsiblity for their lifestyles and are treated accordingly, unless of course they're such victims they have no control over whether they go to a bar and decide to drive home. Pop history is littered with people who were in Britney's shoes, and the one with the happiest ending was Michelle Phillips of The Mamas & The Papas. There was a fantastic interview with her in Vanity Fair a month or so ago, for which the link is beneath. If anyone can sort Britney out she can. www.vanityfair.com/culture/features/2007/12/phillips200712

I'm not saying it's good to do the things Britney does with her children in the car, or to drink drive as others have also done or anything, but the fact is these people are villified for simply getting smashed or having sex with people too.
To use a male comparison, George Best was and his son Calum are seen in the press as 'cads' and are often applauded for getting drunk and shagging lots of birds. Christina Aguilera, in the period between the Genie in a Bottle era and her 'settling down' was repeatedly called a tramp and a slag, because she was a sexually confident woman.
And where did I say it was Kevin Federline's fault that Britney is in the state she is? I didn't. So your Whitney/Bobby or Amy/Blake comparisons don't fit.
And while I also think the way John Leslie was treated was horrible, I'd like to think there was a difference between criticising an alleged rapist and criticising someone in the middle of a mental breakdown for being a bad mother.
I think in Britney's case, more so it would seem than in the cases of Lindsay and Paris etc, it's very clear where her fucked-up-ness stems from. Which is why it's bad that she's in the press so much when she's obviously not in a fit state to be a celebrity at all.

You honestly think George Best got a good press for his drinking exploits the years before he died? He was pitied at the end of his life for wasting it, not applauded. I think in Britney's case,it's very clear where her fucked-up-ness stems from. It's not completely clear to me.

I could list the many (older) people that I know that still look upon George Best fondly despite the fact he was an alcoholic wife beater.
Whatever, I'm not going to get into a discussion over whether someone should be pitied or villified for being mentally ill.

Looks like she was on drugs too It looks like she wasn't. Oh well, the BBC lied to me. EDIT: Aaaaaanyway, regardless of if she's vilified or not, she has got away with some pretty stupid shit for far too long (driving with her kid on her lap, her disregard of the courts and its process, driving around without a license, etc) and now I hope after this, something - anything is done to help her sort her issues out.

Quentin Tarantino wants to remake "Faster Pussycat! Kill! Kill!" with Eva Mendes, Kim Kardashian! and Britney!!!!

The video section is quite harrowing- I had forgotten the just how exact parallels between the Everytime video and her life now are. edit: This picture actually made me want to weep- I really really hope she sorts herself out. Her abs in the Do Somethin' video were what inspired me to get fit and lose weight three years ago- having now piled it back on I am going to screencap the video and stick the pictures all over my house.

Apparently Britney has been in a real live car crash, but is unhurt.
