Looks like ITV are trying to kill off Eastenders.
ITV1 shakes up soap schedules Wednesday, January 2 2008, 16:20 GMT
By Kris Green, Soaps Editor
ITV1 soaps Emmerdale and Coronation Street have been moved in the schedules as part of the network's radical 2008 revamp.
Both soaps' Sunday episodes have been moved to weekdays in the new schedule, with Corrie effectively reduced to three outings a week.
Despite the reduction in the number of nights each soap is broadcast, the total number of minutes per week remains the same. Emmerdale will transmit Monday to Friday at 7pm, with its Tuesday episode turning into a one-hour special airing between 7pm and 8pm.
Coronation Street, meanwhile, will air twice on Mondays and Fridays (7.30pm and 8.30pm) with a single episode on Wednesdays at 7.30pm.
An ITV source told DS that the new scheduling will remain for the "foreseeable future" - even beyond the 10-week run of Dancing on Ice which will now air on Sundays.
Of the new schedule, ITV director of television Simon Shaps said: "We've responded to viewer feedback on Coronation Street and Emmerdale so that fans can catch up with their favourite soaps over fewer nights."
An Emmerdale spokeswoman told DS: "The hour episodes will all be storyline driven. We've played specials in the Tuesday night slot before and there is always a real viewer appetite for it."
ITV's decision to broadcast an hour-long Emmerdale on Tuesday nights will result in a weekly clash with BBC soap EastEnders which begins at 7.30pm.

Best piece of irony in today's unnecessary hour = Carly: "the fanbelt's blown on the gasket head spark plug etc. etc." Chelsea: "in Ingarleeish?"

Apparently Phil "I need to get my son back so my girlfriend can abuse him in myriad ways" Mitchell is going to work with Max to help him get custody of his kids. If I didn't already hate Max, that would do it. Bradley is probably right to leave town for a few months. His cute backside and questionable taste in sweaters will find a proper home I'm sure. His mother seemed very subdued. I was sure she was going to have some venom to spit at Tanya, Max, or Stacey.

Phil has gone to get Louise. I hope that doesn't mean fucking Lisa is coming back.

I was hoping for a Lisa return - otherwise they'll have to operate this Louise story in a somewhat unbelievable manner (the very thought!) - I like Lisa when she was regularly drunk and floppy but not when she came back as a mascara-heavy assassin.

ZOMG! An opening scene featuring Kylie's 'In My Arms' AND Doctor Who references? Have they been watching us?

ZOMG! An opening scene featuring Kylie's 'In My Arms' I rushed to the computer in a gay panic to post about this - Kylie 'In My Arms' is no longer getting played on any radio as 'Wow' replaced it as the next single. I realise Eastenders was filmed a month ago but heads must roll in the BBC for this error. The whole soap now seems far-fetched and ridiculous to me. EDIT Tanya could be turning into quite a good character

I didn't realise In My Arms had ever been posited as a single. I just thought it was EE's protest against Wow.
I've always quite liked Tanya. Well, Jo Joyner. But Max makes my skin crawl. In fact, I like all the Branning/Jackson clan except Max. (And Billy, just in case they are watching and suddenly decide to re-employ Shouty Valentine. However, if they recast someone else as Billy I will keep an open mind)

If you say he name three times Robbie Jackson will re-appear from India. A new Billy could be good ( he was re-cast for two episodes for Sonia's wedding..pointlessly) and also as Denise is leaving he can fill the EastEnd black person quota again.

Is Denise leaving? I thought she was just off on maternity leave.
I like Max, he plays the nasty manipulative husband really rather well. Much better than Phil Mitchells cardboard cut-out bully.
Tanya drunk was great.

I actually know the boy who was re-cast as Billy Jackson, he only got paid £50 to appear in the one episode. And if they do decide to fill the EastEnd black person quota could they at least make this person African, i dont rember the last time there was a black African charcter on a soap other than that girl from Coronaton St.

I did enjoy the dancing to Call the Shots, even though it was rubbish.
Is the JunkySister the second mum from My Parents are Aliens?

It's better than that. She's the really slaggy one from Pulling. I hope she finished the second series of that before she joined EastEnders.
Oh, and does anyone else think she looks like Donna - Kathy Beale's long-lost-daughter-who-died-of-an-overdose?

Oh I remember who she is now! She was in Family Affairs and was in that dodgy loans ad where the man is on the phone and she's listening in and then has an orgasm because they are going to give them a financially crippling loan.

As the main point of lowculture is the celebration of things we like more than slagging off things we don't, and in honour of the fact that EastEnders is quite good now, I think it's time for this thread to pause - although it will remain here, waiting to burst back into life if standards fall again, so be warned, EastEnders producers (like you give a fuck what we think anyway).
