Hey - What dance music is everyone listening to? I found a new fave that I heard in Vegas last weekend. “Stars” by Erika Jayne. I looked her up on Myspace and saw that Stars is in the top 20 on the Dance Charts and her song Rollercoaster is number 9 on the year end Dance Charts for 2007. I've put the links here in case you haven't heard of her. Please feel free to reply with thoughts, and what other artists you're into right now. myspace.com/erikajaynemusic

*Wishes she hadn't used her exalt/smite button in the last few minutes* Don't worry, I acted on your behalf. By the way, does anyone listen to "Dance" music anymore?

I quite like dance and electronic music actually. But not any of that Cascada shit (by the way, she doesn't make her own songs! I always had this image of her in a studio producing the same horrible song and being so happy with herself that she couldn't help but cavort around in her underwear. Cascada isn't even her name, it's Natalie, I saw it on The Hits). Nor that funky house that gay bars seem to love but nobody actually would ever say they are fond of.

I heard Cascada in G-A-Y Bar last night: I thought I was in Glasgow's Bennets. As a dance fan I got excited by this thread - Janice Robinson singing lead on Livin' Joy's Dreamer is still the best thing ever (re-released in 2005 to American clubs as a solo song for her). I've described Ultra Nate's cover of Automatic elsewhere as Hi-NRG wih toothpric precision, it's probably my favourite single of last year. Dannii had/has possibilities but right now some of Kylie's neeew stuff is what I want to listen to these days, which I think is glamorous dance music. The genre itself has a bad name and hearing Chic songs covered by faceless funky house cheapens it into no mans land.

When dance music is good there's nothing better. Download Go Crazy! by Armand Van Helden, one reviewer on Itunes suggests it samples So Macho by Sinitta.

I can't help loving the cheesy dancey-ness of Cascada. I'll never own, download or buy any of her / their songs, and there is, of course, much better music out there, but it's more fun, cheesier and poppies better than "funky house" or "deep tribal pulse house" or any of that nonsense that club DJs spout about.

Cascada, well she's a very handsome woman, in the sense that with a bob she'd look a Judy Finnagen in drag, but her songs are quite light and airy. As in if you hear one in a club it doesn't grate on you really, and just gives you a warm glow. It's basically the mood stabilisers of the dancing gay world.
