Does anybody quite like this lady? She's the second most tipped to succeed in 2008 by unimaginitve music journalists I think, behind Adele. I don't like Adele though. She is quite boring and looks like a right bitch (she may of course be lovely). Anyway back to Duffy. She's been compared to Dusty which is obviously quite daft, but you can sort of see why. They can both knock out a tune quite well and in a game of hangman it will still be all up in the air at this point: DU__Y It's not my usual type of music, but it's nice to have a change from the usual electropoprock ear-botherers. I just keep feeling disappointed that she isn't Duffy from Casualty.

Is Duffy even a real name? I always thought it was a nickname with the Casualty lady.

Apparently her real name is Amy but due to her singing soul, being a girl and having to give interviews to the kind of unimaginavtive journalists who work for the likes of The Sun and Heat she felt the comparisons with Winehouse would be enough without using her real name. I actually really like Duffy. Rockferry really does remind me of Dusty.
I also quite like Adele's Chasing Pavements but get the feeling that after only listening to one song from each artist I am more likely to prefer Duffy's album than Adele's.
Plus Adele looks like the girl from the Exorcist on the cover of Chasing Pavements.

I like what I've heard of Duffy and will be getting the album. I can't say the same for Adele at all.

Every article I've read about her to date mentions that she's Welsh and from Wales.
I don't know if she has any dead relatives, so will wait to pass judgement on the music until I find out about any bereavements.
She's also the Welsh Sinead Quinn, although we don't talk about that.

I liked Sinead Quinn. I have her album and everything. Although I only paid a couple of quid from eBay for it.

Sinead Quinn should have been a bigger. But she's working a lot at the moment, even if she's not releasing records.
There was an Adele v Duffy article in G2 today. I think there's an element of The Emperor's New Clothes about both of them - if enough people said Vanilla were the sound of 2008 then No Way No Way would be number one right now.
Having listened to Duffy again, I think if anyone's possessing the spirit of Dusty (other than "Dusty" on The One And Only) then it's Miss Nicola Roberts, especially on I Say A Prayer For You and her moment on Whole Lotta History.

I think Duffy's quite great really. Though I'm sure I read somewhere she was a contestant on some sort of Welsh X-Factor thing a while back. But that might just have been some weird-ass dream. (I find my oddest dreams often feature Wales. Or Whales.)
I like Adele too, but every time I think of her I can't help but see one of the neds who worked in my local chippie when I was at Uni in Aberdeen. And you could never say that about Amy Winehouse. Still, I'm sure I'll get used to her.

She was the runner-up on Wawffactor, but she was expected to win. There would have been a phone votes scandal if anyone actually watched the show.

I really liked Sinead Quinn's two singles. I feel quite bad about the fact that I didn't think to buy her album until I spotted it in a bargain bin for something like 79 pence. I am pleased for her that she still seems to be getting work though.
I'm not sure about Duffy yet. I haven't heard much of her. I like Adele's 'Chasing Pavements' although I'm not sure if I'll investigate further. I think for both of them all the hype might be a bit of a poisoned chalice- it has given them attention and success, but they'll probably suffer the inevitable "they're just hype" backlash soon enough.
