This is a bit late I know. sorry, but I'm going to Paris tomorrow, (yay!) and wondered if anyone had any recommendations of music to buy while I'm there. I would buy the new Camille CD but I'm not sure if it's out yet...Is the Yelle CD worth getting? I like Tristesse/Joie but I'm not sure about the album yet. I'm open to any suggestions, it doesn't matter what genre. cheers!

Given your name, I reckon you'll already know Zazie. She's mad as a box of frogs.
Star Academy winner Christophe Willem borders on ace too.

Yes! I recommended Yelle in the GA thread. I've only heard 4 tracks, but i LOVE them.
Have fun in Paris, i went last Summer. Make sure you leave ages for the Eiffel Tower.

The Yelle album is seven shades of multi-lingual awesomeness. It's totally worth every penny.
Can't you just walk around the city singing "Can't Speak French?" instead? I hope you have a good time.

I'd forgotten about her. Thanks! Yes! I recommended Yelle in the GA thread. I've only heard 4 tracks, but i LOVE them. Have fun in Paris, i went last Summer. Make sure you leave ages for the Eiffel Tower. I went there this time last year as well, the Eiffel Tower was great. I spent loads of money in FNAC on Camille and French editions of British albums so I reckon this time I should just buy stuff that I like the look of. I love Paris, though I always seem to go in February....I'll get the Yelle album if I can get it at a decently cheap price. I'd be interested in Yelle vinyl, I like the remixes she puts out. I haven't been able to find any here. Edit: I missed boxedjoy's post, I'm definitely getting Popup now. I hoping the cd lives up to its name and does have an actual pop-up sleeve.

No pop-up sleeve, but Yelle is awesome - especially A Cause Des Garcons

Go for Yelle!!! She's playing in London on Tuesday - who wants to come? It is literally across the road from where I work, but The Old Blue Last is a dump.

So? It's a good gig. It'll be full of hipsters - we need to even it out :-)
And lovemusic - it's 5 mins walk from Old Street Station

It's been out for a while now I guess, but the song Divine Idylle from Vanessa Paradis is very addictive.

I'm back. I ran out of money faster than I thought so I didn't get as many as I wanted. I wanted to get the new Zazie CD and Divine Idylle but i was down to my last 20 euro. Boo. So, I got Yelle, Emilie Simon's first album, The Plasticines album- I have no idea what that's gonna be like but I've heard good things about it- and "Rose Kennedy" by Benjamin Biolay. The last 2 were bargains so if they're not great it doesn't really matter. I also got a promo copy of the latest James Yorkston CD for a euro. That's not French so it doesn't really count, but still, it was a bargain.
I know Fnac and Virgin really aren't cheap but does anyone know why their prices are so odd? I could understand sums that made up the euro, e.g. 83c/17c but the prices are bizarre. Like, 20euro56c.....

How was Paris?

Paris was great, thanks..weather was weirdly great for February, 17c and sunny on Sunday! I got some nice clothes and my cds, so I'm happy. The whole thing was crisis-free until this morning when I caught the train to the airport, but my mum didn't. Even at the time I could see it was quite hilarious, me on the train pulling out of the station with our tickets, watching my mum standing on the platform with all the luggage, money and phones. It was like something out of a bad film. It all worked out in the end, I borrowed a girl's phone to call her. That's the first time being able to speak French has been useful!
I've listened to Yelle and Emilie Simon so far. I still love Tristesse/Joie and now I've worked out the lyrics I love Ce Jeu as well. I can't decide if I like the original of A cause des Garcons or Yelle's version better. "C'est la faute des mags! Des magazines!" will be going round my head for ages! Emilie is great too, though not entirely what I expecting. I had "Désert" in mp3 but the version on the album is quite different, better I think.

When we went, in April it was bizarrely hot. We must just be lucky!
I am now picturing a mother and daughter Brief Encounter! We nearly missed our train, but thats because i insisted on buying Glamour and some skittles. I didn't do much shopping, we wanted to be touristy.
