Oh man, Clueless is the queen.
Wedding bells Cher: "As if! This is Calafornia not Kentuky!"
I love Never Been Kissed.
"Girl, you are a writer."
The Faculty is excellent. When you find out that new girl is the alien, how did I not guess!
The Lost Boys, a new favourite after seeing it on MTV. Those comic store kids Edgar and Alan, I swear everybody knows kids like them. And Sam is so cute, you just wanna eat his little cotton socks!

I love crap teen movies. Another good one is "Jawbreaker" with Rose McGowan and Rebecca Gayheart! Jawbreaker is amazingly good. Julie Benz (Buffy's Darla) is my favourite in it. The dumb blonde girl character is in every teen film ever made, but for some reason, Julie Benz's take on it is one of the more memorable. Carol Kane is also in it playing the mad headmistress. And Rose McGowan's then boyfriend Marilyn Manson makes a cameo as a wierdo who fucks dead people. A recent top pick of this genre is Confessions Of A Teenage Drama Queen with Lindsay Lohan. It's not out here yet but you can find pirate DVD copies if you know where to look. It's such a charming film and it's got a killer song in it - That Girl performed by Lindsay herself. Carol Kane stars in this one too.

I'm surprised Mean Girls hasn't been mentioned. It's so good. One of my favourite ever movie quotes, "A mouse - duh!"

Re: Ferris Bueller's best friend, and "whether he's got fit since then": He hasn't, in my humble opinion. He is called Alan Ruck, and was in Spin City with Michael J Fox. www.imdb.com/name/nm0001688/So there you go.

A recent top pick of this genre is Confessions Of A Teenage Drama Queen with Lindsay Lohan. The original book is a hundred times better. Mean Girls is fabulous.

What about Battle Royale?
The greatest teen movie since Heathers.

Battle Royale would have been better if the two main characters hadn't been totally boring. Mitsuko was robbed!

The Legend of Billie Jean Isn't that the most fabulously Eighties title ever? It was even made by Tri-Star. Helen Slater was in this, and it had a great soundtrack, featuring the mighty Pat Benatar.

See, none of these films are really crap.
At university, I worked on a study of teen films from the Reagan era.
I highly recommend:
Spring Break Losin' It Up The Creek My Tutor
AND
The Last American Virgin which is a classic film by any standard. The happy abortion scene to a Journey song is jaw dropping in hindsight.
These films are less regarded than the more popular films of the "genre" such as Fast Times at Ridgemont High and Risky Business, but infinitely more worthwhile.

As a child/teen I envied Jennifer Connolly's ability to pull Bowie and also wear a leather waistcoat with a puffy-sleeved white shirt. And harp about in a princess dress reciting cod poetry, with an owl. And who wasn't jealous of this get-up (bearing in mind it was the 80s): I know it's not exactly classified as a teen movie but it rocked my world.

Oh, can we do some more quotes from Michele & Romy's High School Reunion, please?
Heather : This dress exacerbates the genetic betrayal that is my legacy. Michele : OK, I don't even know what you're talking about cause of those words, but come here.
Michele : Did you lose weight? Romy : Actually, I have been trying this new fat free diet I invented. All I've had to eat for the past six days are gummy bears, jelly beans, and candy corns. Michele : God, I wish I had your discipline.
Romy : Hey, um, great suit. Is that an Armani? Suit Salesman : Yes. Yes, it is. Romy : I thought so. So, what do you do? Suit Salesman : I'm a suit salesman. Romy : Would you excuse me? I cut my foot before and my shoe is filling up with blood.
Michele : You know, even though I had to wear that stupid back brace and you were kind of fat, we were still totally cutting edge.
God I love that movie.
