At our house we used to do a thing every Friday which was video friday and we rented a video from the video shop.
Some were lowculture classics:
Blank Cheque. It was amazing and oh look it's got bad guys and a guy with lots of money. As Did Richie Rich. Also really liked it.
Trading Mommy Sissey Spacek was great in this. It's about these kids who wanted to have a nicer mum. And they went to this tradey place. Sissey Spacek played all the mums in it and I really liked it.
Dave it's on tv tonight. About someone who trades places with the president of USA when he is ill or something like that. Very good.
Court Jester Danny Kaye in a great film about this person who infiltrates a castle by pretending he's a jester. It's in black and white and it's great.
And I'm sure there are lots of others and I'll remember them soon.
Oh and also three trilogies:
Karate Kid Kicks arse. Very good. Although I only really remember the first one.
Neverending Story Completely amazing. Although the third one was the worst. I loved mr Coriander(the mr Miyagi equivalent who gives Bastian the book). I loved the big furry dog thing who had wings.
Superman I only really remember Superman 1 but I saw the two other Superman's later. I loved the ice bit where it's that big crystal cave thing. And I loved when baby Superman lifted up the car.

The only films I remember watching LOADS when I was little were;
The Dark Crystal Willow
I see a pattern emerging...
My Little Pony: The Movie Care Bears: The Movie
But of course there are fond memories of Star Wars, James Bond, Back to the Future, Indiana Jones, Karate Kid, Ghostbusters, Goonies, Teenage whatever turtles, Roald Dahl ones, Beverly Hills Cop, Beetlejuice, Gremlins, Drop Dead Fred ... and all of the mermaid themed ones.
Oh and...
The 'Burbs Don't tell mom the babysitters dead Three Men and a...
I could go on for hours.

Volunteers :
Tom Hanks in funny movie shock.
John Candy, before I killed him.
(I suspect if I saw it now it would be rubbish but it was funny about 15 years ago.)

John Candy, before I killed him. I had forgotten you killed John Candy. If you recall, we also killed Uncaring Elsie at one stage – there was even a funeral – but she now seems to be thriving. Let's hope the same is true of John.

Video hadn't been invented when I was little - booo
But we had a projector, and used to hire films and project them on to the wall to watch - yay
We were living in Lagos, Nigeria at the time. unfortunately there wasn't all that much choice for children, so we saw every film about twenty times and although I'm old all the film were very out of date even then. Lizards used to walk across the film while we watched.
Favourites used to be The Italien Job, Silver Streak, The Big Bus, The Towering Inferno, On Her Majesty's Secret Service and The Poseidon adventure

My all-time favourite movies as a kid were:
1. Raiders of the Lost Ark 2. Bugsy Malone 3. The Goonies
I must have seen each of them at least 100 times.

There has been no mention of "Flight of the navigator". Or "Return to Oz". Both are classics.

Video hadn't been invented when I was little - booo Oh thank God, I was beginning to feel ancient! No projectors for us either though as that was far too posh! The films on TV that really made an impression were 'Thoroughly Modern Millie' (I still can't get in a lift without tap dancing)! And 'Hello Down There' a sort of Lost In Space style film with Tony Randall and family living in a groovy underwater house. Cut off from the rest of the world, his sons - always in trunks - had a happening pop group who sneaked their demos out without him knowing and caused a stir on dry land! No it really was a film!

Flight of the frikkin Navigator.
We taped that onto cassette, so that when we needed our fix ,we (me and my sister) could listen to it. It was only the first 45 minutes, but the music at the start and the sound of dogs catching frisbees will stay with me forever. We were a bit obsessed with that film. And Sarah Jessica Parker was in it.
oooh And 'Yellow Submarine' was never off the video player.

Labryinthe was my childhood film.
David Bowie used to scare the shit out of me.
I only watched Flight of the Navigator for the first time the other night and I'm 18. I can safely say that if seen as a kid I would have worshipped it as I thought it was fucking ace.
What a cool spaceship. And the random dogs at the beginning? Best. Opening. Ever.
