TV legend Ronald Magill has sold his last pint int' Woolpack, news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/entertainment/6983016.stm It'll always be "Emmerdale Farm" to me and it's been nowhere near as good since Mr Wilks and Amos left. Note :- this will mean nothing to anyone under 25.

What's the betting tonight's episode will be dedicated to Ronald Magill?

I am 25, this is sad. I used to watch Emmerdale when he was in it and it was called 'Emmerdale Farm'. I remember when Mr Wilks died they even did a nice montage of him.
Do any of the channels show old Emmerdale? Sky Soap and G+ both used to. There's a DVD release of the first series coming up, and I'm a little tempted.

I remember when Jackie was shot in his landrover. I was only about four, but it scared me to bits. Amos's sideburns (or buggergrips as my school affectionately calls them) were legendary.

I'm the same. It'll always be 'Emmerdale Farm' to me (as will 'High Road' always be 'Take The High Road').
When the show was changing and they were retiring all the old faces I got a bit confused and stopped watching. I always thought Annie would marry Mr Wilks, but did she end up in Spain with Amos?
I still expect to see her kitchen whenever I tune in. It's not the same without it.

I was pleasantly surprised that at the end of the Guardian's obituary, it mentioned that Ronald Magill had lived with a male partner for around thirty years...

Amos was a bummer? I'm shocked to the core. Still, didn't he live in the pub with that tidy gentleman with the moustache and bow tie...?
(Please note: I last saw Emmerdale Farm when it was on during the day and my mum watched it, so my memory may be extremely hazy around all this).
