...made me grin from ear-to-ear.
Who knew Christian teen movies could be so feel-good?

I've seen it too downloaded.
I really really liked it. Loads of funny moments and poking fun at Christianity - all good.
I was actually impressed with Mandy Moore which was a shock, and I'm still trying to decide whether Patrick Fugit is really good looking or horribly ugly.

Patrick Fugit is really quite pug, but looked nice in the lame loin cloth. Mind you, they do say you don't look at the mantelpiece when you're . . .
I thought this was rather good. Who'd have thought Mandy Moore could play an egotistical self-righteous and slightly scary blond singer with such conviction?
One of the biggest belly laughs for me was: -
Mom: I'm trying to remember that every time Jesus closes a door he opens a window.
Mary: That's so you have something to jump out of.
And Macauley Culkin was almost (I said almost) fanciable in it too - what was that about?
I probably liked it because a lot of it was so arch: the quips about killing to keep your virginity, "take Jesus into your heart" used as an insult, beheading Jesus etc etc.

I probably liked it because a lot of it was so arch: the quips about killing to keep your virginity, "take Jesus into your heart" used as an insult, beheading Jesus etc etc. Precisely! This is why I enjoyed it too. I was inviting my friend Steve to come along and see it with me. He wasn't really up for it, but I assured him that as former film students, Jo and I were to be relied on that it would be funny. This random girl he was with (who'd I'd never met before) said to me, "Yeah, cause I bet it's going to be REALLY intelectual and you'll be discussing it for WEEKS!" and rolled her eyes. I was really embarrassed about it and couldn't speak. Buuut, if she'd've watched it, she'd prolly have the same opinion. Buuuuuut, I think that's what I liked about Saved! and films like it. It's clever, yes, more so than eighties teen movies which sorta made/ruined the genre, but's not that clever. When Hilary Faye had tried to exorcise the baby, then threw the Bible at Mary, her response was "THIS isn't a weapon." Great stuff -- not very, not at all subtle but still excellent. I also loved how Mary had an immaculate conception and Hilary Faye sounds a little like Tammy Faye and Cassandra was a pagan prophetess, things like that. Really obvious, but at least they'd thought about it some.

I once made a religious woman cry for suggesting she was ugly and had excessive facial hair. When I was told off I replied "she's a christian - she'll forgive me".
I liked this film. And the message it has to offer.
And who knew Acadamy Award Winner Susan Sarandon's daughter was such a chip of the old block.
I give it a 7.

I was gonna mention this too, but decided against it for the sake of my reputation. I fancied him completely in Party Monster and have no shame in it. Oh, can I give it a 6? I was very tired when I went to see it, so drifted off towards the end. Who's the girl that tried to eat the scenery all the time? Yes, she can play that part, but she wasn't playing off the others. It got annoying. Mandy Moore was auprisingly good, and I loved the Mullet-style hairdo. She seemed to have second billing, however. The pram-pusher girl had the most atrocious skin ever, and 'Pug' is so the right word for her eventual love-interest. I just think the film could have had a lot more bite, instead of forcing itself as a 'teen movie'.

I'll go with you, Jess. Come to London this weekend. I only just saw this message so I hope you didn't wait for me at the cinema all weekend. Looks like I'll have to resort to the DVD this time, but I'm looking forward to seeing it eventually. Jessica

My local cinema was only showing this for one week, and I missed it. Having also missed A Cinderella Story, I'm totally waiting for the DVDs to come out and having a mini Moore/Duff film festival in my living room.
