I bought the dvd the other day after watching dogville and loving it, same director Lars Von Trier. Also BestWorst reminded me about it on Saturday.
This film was great. So so good. Björk is amazing in it but it does seem as if there is a common theme with his films.
I cried a lot at the end but I was expecting to cry a lot more. It was really well directed and was so moving.

I almost bought it yesterday on DVD for £5.99, if it's still there next I'm in and I have more cash I'll probably get it.
I wasn't sure at first when I started watching it, but it is a very good movie, it's sad and makes you angry.
I still haven't seen Dogville, but I have seen another Lars Von Trier film, The Idiots. I can honesly say I've never seen a film like it.

I saw this film before 'Dogville', and it's just amazing. Who would have thought that Bjork would be such a good actress??
It's such an intense film though - at the end I just felt so empty. As much as I loved it, it's so heavy that I don't think I could watch it again.
I think I'll have to catch 'The Idiots' next.........

I think i'd like to see it again(i have the dvd) so I can see things I didn't see the first time. But isn't the idiots the heaviest out of all his films? i haven't seen it but someone told me it's horrific.

The Idiots is the most enjoyable and my favorite Von Trier film. I'm still down that Breaking The Waves may be his best.
As for the common themes, Jamie, Lars Von Trier likes to do films in cycles. Dancer In The Dark was the third and final in his 'Good Heart' trilogy (Breaking The Waves and The Idiots making up the other two parts) exploring "the mental illness of being good".
