obviously they need his place for another ex soapie to show up before becoming the 1,236th pc to die at sun hill.. is this fossil of a show ever going to be axed or have itv and the beeb got a wager on which lasts longer this or casualty ...

He's the institution, really, isn't he? Like Pauline/Ian in Eastenders. It is a shame that he'll probably just get replaced with a good-looking bit of soap fluff, who'll want to leave (and have their character killed off) after a couple of years.
Maybe he'll turn up in Eastenders to woo Heather.

....but I have to say i stopped watching about 4 years ago when it seemed that every episode was about rape or corrupt coppers.

He's the institution, really, isn't he? Like Pauline/Ian in Eastenders. True, but don't police officers retire fairly early? If the actor playing him is 52, Reg surely must be about the right age, so having the character retire would be a rare glimpse of believability in a show that abandoned the concept years ago. I hope he's OK.
