Total rip off of the beginning of Lemony Snickett.
It looks shit.

It's a good 10 years too late.

Wow...Homer's between a rock...and a hard place....let's illustrate that by calling the bar 'a hard place' - don't be subtle about it, it's funnier that way.

I hear so many folk whining that The Simpsons isn't funny anymore and has "lost it", which I shamelessly found myself agreeing with until I recently saw a couple of the newer episodes and laughed just as much as ever. I can never be bothered to watch it normally though, which leads me to think that the problem lies not with the show itself but with the overkill and boredom that comes with being on air for 15 years.
This trailer is a bit crap though. I think the spoof beginning has been done to a death over the last few years (South Park, Scooby Doo, Lemmony Snicket...)

I think the humour is actually from the fact that it hasbeen made obvious Problem is they seem to do it all the time and I don't find anything worse than someone doing the equivalent of pointing at something and saying 'look...this is funny'. I used to love the Simpsons but I don't know why but I really haven't liked it now for a good few years. I think Homer's the key as he's gone from being a loveable loser to a smug and mean spirited idiot who ends up wailing and crying in every episode or just doing something really stupid or just cruel. Bearing in mind it's nearly 20 years old, the film is way too late and it might be time to put it to rest - particularly as the last five years have really sullied the classic 90's era of The Simpsons which was truly great. Jumped the shark a long time ago Im afraid.

I was worried about this but I saw the newer trailer for this at the cinema when I went to see Shrek and it was quite funny. Not entirely convinced that it will be as good as it should be but I'm going to give it a go.

I watched my first new episode of "The Simpsons" in years last week seeing as it was a "24" pastiche and it was, frankly, dismal. I'll be saving my pennies on this.

I don't get the hordes of people crying 'its jumped the shark' either.
However, i find myself watching other shows a lot more especially since sky one is showing it at about 7pm when i can't wedge myself into the couch with sky because dad is constantly watching sky sports news.
Its still funny, and besides - no one is making you watch it

I laughed at the Spider Pig bit. Spiderpig has to be the most hilarious moment in The Simpsons since about 5 seasons ago. "Spiderpig! Spiderpig! Does whatever-a-spiderpig-does!"

Just got back from this. Very good, really, although not excellent. I'd say about 200% as good as current episodes and about 60% as good as the show at its peak...
Several jokes got no laughs at all but many more got a big positive reaction. The main villain fell completely flat however - I don't think any of his jokes was met with anything other than deathly silence in the cinema I was in.
The plot is stronger than you'd assume from the trailer too, although I'm at a loss to understand the relevance of Lisa's subplot.

I liked it, it was just like an extended episode rather than something really bad and terrible. And there were hardly any celeb cameos which was good. Though I agree about not seeing enough of Springfieldians and the Irish accent.

When you watch the early episodes you realise how much Homer's hilarious stupidity™ has become exaggerated and caricatured as the show has gone on. As time's gone on I've found Homer increasingly annoying to watch but, saying that, I quite enjoyed the film. Bit of a return to form?

I quite liked it. As said earlier, it's much better than the recent episodes and I felt it found it's own pacing and style which was a bit different from the series. As expected, the pig was the best character in the whole film. The animation was pretty decent for a largely 'flat' 2D cartoon. I didn't however like seeing full frontal Bart or Homer flipping people off - it was trying to be adult for the sake of it.

Yeah, although it's probably for the American audiences benefit than ours since there TV is so much more uptight than ours. It also amused me that even with these two incidents the film is only rated PG overhere, whilst the dvd boxsets of the regular show are regularly rated 12!

According to the BBFC it was 'natural nudity' for Bart which is allowed within reason in a PG. I supposed they could excuse Homer swearing as the fact he only has four fingers so it could perfectly innocent and he's just pointing to the sky.

This is pathetic, I know, but I'm going to enquire anyway.
The scene where the Donald Rumsfeld-esque character is contemplating the troop formation around the dome sounds suspiciously like binary code. I haven't been able to find anything on the entire internet (i.e. quick Google search), so was wondering if anyone else knew what it meant...
Sorry.

I did a Google search for 11010010100101 (which is the Binary version of Cargill's troop formation if 1 means hard and 0 means soft) and it came up with 11010010100101 actually meaning a word in binary but I have no idea how to decode it. One site listed 11010010100101 as the first part of a Nic Cage movie quote but didn't say the answer so, in retrospect, I've been no real help. Sorry!

I saw it tonight, and I actually thought it was really funny. I think the Simpsons is just like Friends really - if you actually properly watch an episode, it IS funny, with a few bits that fall short, but you turn off from the jokes when you're overexposed to it.
I wasn't expecting it to be very good, but I thought it was. Favourite line goes to Ralph: "I love boys now"
Oh and "*Flicks through bible* It doesn't have any answers!"

I thought it was really good, but my expectations were pretty low. My favourite line went something like 'Thank you, giant boob lady!', but Mr Burns bit during the credits was really funny, as was 'maybe we should kiss to break the tension...'
