I would've thought the John Cameron Mitchell thing would mean this film was right up Lowculturers' streets? I haven't seen it yet, but plan to tomorrow. I've been really looking forward! Anyone else?

I saw it a few weeks ago at the Cardiff Film Festival and enjoyed it, kind of a Sex And The City with actual real life sex. Most of it happens in the first 5 minutes though, during the title sequence.
It is a good film with some great lines (she's got a twat like a wizard's sleeve being my favourite) and the scene with the vibrating egg is VERY funny.
I'd recommend it, but prepar yourself for lots of cocksucking.

The film tends to climax (literally) with the opening sequence. It gets downright boring after that. This is kind of appropriate and convenient for the porn fans and home video target audience who will never make it past that point anyway.
"Let's get some people together and improvise a story" concepts are much more interesting for the people doing them than the people watching. (I am fully aware that this statement sort of defeats the 'voyeurism is participation' slogan of the film. Which is also a bit of lazy crap).
Still, I would like to see the film do well. It is sort of important that it be a success financially. So I wish it all the best.

I quite liked how the sex in it was non-sensational (opening sequence aside). It made it feel like 'real' sex rather than porn.
In all, I thought it was a lovely film: I can't recall leaving the pictures with a bigger smile on my face in aaaages. The soundtrack was brilliant as well and has introduced me to the charms of Yo La Tengo.
It was also intriguing to see Kiki out of draf (sort of). He looked like a rather camp Peter Cook.

It is sort of important that it be a success financially. Why exactly, well any other reasons apart from the obvious? It's had quite a limited release, so I can't see it doing that well. I thought it was quite boring too and the rimming put me off my popcorn.

I still haven't managed to see it. Damnation. The arthouse cinema, which gets things later, is now my only hope. And what makes me even more eager is that I just found out Ola Salo from The Ark has some songs in it! Did anyone notice that?

Chapter seem to be content showing films some two/three months after they left the multiplexes. In January we have The Devil Wears Prada, Marie Antoinette and Starter For Ten. Fingers crossed for February.

Shortbus is essentially an exploitation film and exploitation films have a historical role in removing taboos and demonstrating commercial potential so that all filmmakers can have more freedom. Obviously, Shortbus is not expected to be a blockbuster. But in Indie terms, it needs to be. And I think that in America, it has done well. And obviously, it will do great on video.

I liked it- bleak and optimistic at the same time!

Shortbus is excellent. I "acquired" it months ago.
It's funny and sad and all sorts of things all at once... quite eye-opening and thought provoking too. Definitely worth watching if watching three gay men having sex won't make you uncomfortable.
(That's actually one of the funniest scenes, IMO.)

Finally it came to Cardiff! I saw it on Friday and on Sunday, hurrah! I loved it. I can't get a dodgy DVD no matter how I try, though. Will just have to wait.
