I must be out of the loop, I didn't even realise this was being remade until now when I accidently stumbled on the new trailer for it.
Trailer looks alright but then again they always do and it seems to have it's fair share of horror royalty in it's cast (Dee Wallace, Malcolm Mcdowell, Brad Dourif, Adrienne Barbeau...) but what most sparked my attention is Danielle Harris (little Jamie Lloyd from the original series) is playing Annie.
I somehow feel manipulated into wanting to see this film.

I don't blame you for wanting to see it, it actually looks like it could be very good. I liked how in the trailer it said 'reinventing a legend' - it's better to actually acknowledge that it's a remake, and this way there won't be any of the Texas Chainsaw Massacre-esque "OMG it's a remake?!?!?!?!??!?!". And Michael looks scary, too.

It's a prequel and a remake, which is neat. I have all of the Halloweens and do a marathon showing with my mate every 18 months or so.
I'm really looking forward to this, must say. Halloween has never had any decent continuity (film 7 ignores everything that happened in films 4, 5 & 6!) so there's no problem with a remake and a prequel together as far as I'm concerned.

I'm really in two minds about this. Hand on heart, I honestly think that the original Halloween is the finest horror film ever made, it completely survives repeat viewings and feels just as fresh now as it did in the 70's.
Rob Zombie as director is encouraging, as is the fact that they're looking at the story of Michael before his rampage. Plus thank God they're not shoehorning in an appearance from Jamie-Lee Curtis.
BUT, I can't help but feel that recent versions of Hills Have Eyes and Texas Chainsaw Massacre were supposedly "reimaginings not remakes" but were still overwhelmingly shite. I just hope they don't ruin the character of Annie.

I just started my rewatching of the series with my mate last night. We wathed the first two back to back.
The first one is still great, the second one still incredibly disappointing with a criminally underused Jamie Lee Curtis. It also manages to be boring. Halloween is one of the very few film franchises which (with the exception of H20) has a quality drop with every film. There is usually a gem or two at around part 5 (hello Friday 13th Part 5, for example) - not so here.

There is usually a gem or two at around part 5 (hello Friday 13th Part 5, for example) - not so here. I disagree. One of the sequels - I can't remember which one, clearly not the complete mindfuck that was number three - had a really good and freaky twist at the end, where The little girl kills the woman who's running her bath after Michael has been after them throughout the film and seemingly been killed because she has the same MURDEROUS GENES as him I think it's 4, which is the last one I saw before I skipped to H20. I can't believe I just added a spoiler for Halloween 4. I would like to see Ressurection as well, to explain the ending of H20 which seemed to terminate the end of all of this Horror. Obviously not. I'd be up for watching the remake too, as long as they don't go and do a Psycho.

Please don't watch Resurrection - it's best to just pretend that it all ended at H20 as Resurrection was such an enormous lump of shite with the most tenuous explanation for H20's ending - honestly jaw-droppingly awful!
Oh and Friday 13th Part 5? Surely you mean Part 6?

SPOILERS for the Halloween and Friday 13th series here - you can only do one tag per post, so I can't do the usual spoiler thing.
No, I don't. I love Part V - the one that doesn't even have the real Jason, just an impersonator. I am not normal, I know. Part VI is decent though.
Yes, I have sympathy with anyone saying that Halloween 4 is OK, and that is a great ending, but I would rate it below the first three films (yes, I like Halloween 3), and above 5 & 6. So the quality does drop with each film as far as I'm concerned.
H6 is hilariously bad though, with all sort of Druid shit. There's a very interesting Producer's Cut doing the rounds though which is an instructive example of how clever editing can completely change a film. Using the same filmed footage it's really rather different to the released version due to a lot of sneaky cutaways and curtailed scenes in the final cut. It's not much better though.
Resurrection/8 is a travesty. I simply cannot believe how unutterably awful the shite-fest is. To open with THAT Jamie Lee sequence is just crap. If she was contracted to do a cameo only, why not get her back at the end? Then if you want to kill her off and give her a heroine's send-off, you can.

Yeah in my story, Laurie Strode/Keri Tate just carries on, certainly no rubbish mental institute plot for her.
And fair enough about Part 5, I just know it's kind of renowned as the low point of the series. But it does have crazy stew woman and that strap death.
Ah, it's so nice to have someone to discuss random horror with!

I think the Friday the 13th sequels are much more fun.
I'll be going to see this remake for sure, Adrienne Barbeau is great!
