Ugh! One of the most depressing films I've seen for a long time. There were times when I thought to myself they weren't making the most out of an interesting idea, but as it went on I could see where they were going with it, and it suddenly became really good. However In the final scene I was just yelling GO TALK TO HER! She won't remember a seven year old kid being nasty to her after the good life she's had, and they could be together again! Bah at these unhappy-but-it's-for-the-best endings. Occasional jarring of the good story brought on by Ashton Kutcher though. He was really hit and miss.

I enjoyed it much more than I'd expect (especially for a film with Aston Kutcher in). It was rather grim, but I kind of like grim films.

I really enjoyed it. I was really pleased to see it in the TV schedules and had been looking forward to it all week.
When it was out at the cinema I remember thinking that I'd probably would like it but would be best off waiting for it to be on TV. And I did! And it was!

It wasn't what I expected at all. I started out rather liking it but then it went on and on and on, like an extended remix of Tales of the Unexpected. I couldn't give a fuck about Kayleigh, she was so boring. And is it just me, or was the child abuse thing handled kind of casually at times? He might be winding me up, but my boyfriend said there is an utterly nuts alternate ending where Ashton goes back to his mother's womb and breaks the umbilical cord to kill his baby self.

See, that's the ending I've seen! What's the other one?

Now I'm wondering whether I was hungover / in a really bad mood when I went to see this in the cinema years ago because I remember thinking it was dire. I thought it was clumsy, obvious and had no subtlety. I know the line that went something like 'so when I lost my arms in the explosion you started chain smoking and now you're dying of lung cancer' made me want to hurl things at the cinema screen.

See, that's the ending I've seen! What's the other one? Oh really? Well, the one on telly the other night... ended with him going back to the first time he met Kayleigh* and he told her he hated her and wanted to kill her family. Then you see Ashton a few years from now being a big ass psychologist replete with man bag in New York or something and he passes Kayleigh on the street and she meaningfully turns back to look at him.
* is it too late to say I'm sorry?
