Yes it featured Liza Tarbuck, and yes the guys derranged mother was briliant, and to some extent unique, but the show is just so ... "80's" (even though it came out in the 90's). The guy just isn't watchable, no pun intended, and the little stout girl's voice is practically unbearable. I did like her mother as well, who was a lot thinner. It just reminded me of my own Gran and Granny: the way one seemed a little neaurotic and unhinged, and the other was a bit scatty and smoked and drank Bacardi a lot. The theme tune is hilariously sung by the female lead. 'What'll I Do' used by Birds of a Feather sounds almost professional by comparison.

God I LOVED Watching. Emma Wray was the lead and she was well funny. I remember being upset when she chopped all her hair off though. There were some very strong characters in this show too, especially the 2 mothers. One was very overbearing and protective (Malcolm's mum) and the other was mad (Brenda's mum). It's still on telly, it's on Granada Plus. Billy from Eastenders used to be in it!
I still remember the words to the song "What Does He See In Me?"
Sing along if you like...
It was boredom at first sight You could hardly call him bright He is no-one's Mr. Right So what do I see in him?
But then I'm not so ideal I'm not gentle or gentile
So the question should be What does he see in me?
Then there were the closing credits:
Have I fallen in his spell? Does he drown me in Chanel? Is he vibrant? Is he hell! So what do I see in him?
Am I dazzled by his style? Has he made my life worthwhile? Does he melt me with his smile? Don't make me laugh!
Every inch of him is limp He's a 14-carat wimp I would rather have a chimp as my other half
But then I'm not blessed with charm I bring chaos where there was calm So the question should be What does he see in me?
Oh I'm so sad...I'd love this to come out on DVD...

I loved this as well! Malcolm (?) was such a classic dork. I loved Emma Wrey and I used to watch everything she was in. Of course, being a small child I never actually understod any of it, but I think a show is truely magic when it can entertain the socks off you even when you don't have a clue what's happening.

And almost certainly the first and last time a birdwatcher featured as a main character.
