I think I still have every issue of the magazine Farthing Wood Friends under my bed. Yes, every issue. About 150 of them. Bizarre, considering I only watched the first series (maybe some of the second too...) Don't know how they managed to keep it going that long.
I remember getting quite emotionally involved in the first series. And it wasn't Kestrel who skewered the mice babies on the thorny bush - it was the 'Butcher Bird'. Very traumatic. Kestrel got rather annoying cos every sentence was interrupted by a very shrill "Keeeeee!" noise, but she didn't kill the mice babies.
I also remember shouting at the screen when Mr Pheasant decided to go back to the farm where his wife had been shot. He then saw her cooked on a platter and got shot himself. I definitely shouted at him for being so stupid to go back to the farm.

I loved this show. Why isn't there a fucking dvd release? How ridiculous. It could teach a whole new generation to love wildlife, well hedgehogs and pheasants at least. Mrs Pheasant's death and windowsill body cooling = The most harrowing moment of my life so far.
I too collected all the magazines. They're not still under my bed though. That's a bit creepy...

Oh, but there's all sorts of old stuff under my bed. Sleeping bags, boxes of board games, old magazines, cuddly toys - I just never get round to sorting it all out. Nothing sinister, I promise.
I think Badger was my favourite character. I'm glad I stopped watching by the time he died. I'm sure that would have upset me.

I absolutely loved this but yes I was small child. I had all the magazines and read all the books and had the kestrel window sticker and bought the videos and signed an online petition for a dvd release. ahem...
I was terrified when Scarface bit Adder's tale off...gotta hurt!
The thrid series was shite other than the battle at the end and the snakes getting trapped underground, but was otherwise shoddy. But please bring it back...am sure they didn't make all the books into the TV show???

I've just found clips on youtube! The bird killing the mice babies is horrible - no beating about the bush, just skewered onto it. It's funny, and a little shocking, what we were subjected to as children. Those were the days.

I was obsessed with it at the time. A hell of a lot of gory deaths for a children's show.
It was kind of like a soap opera really. A lot of very British stereotypes for the characters.
What I remember quite fondly is the bitching between Vixen and Lady Blue, Scarface's wife, which cultimated in them finally having a catfight... or should that be vixen fight? Vixen bit Lady Blue's ear off if I remember rightly...

As an Animals of Farthing Wood fan, I will correct several errors I've noticed here... Vixen did bite Lady Blue's ear, but only the top part of it. A DVD release of AOFW is being discussed in 2007, and it may be out by 2008/2009. Scarface was not killed by Fox at the end of Season 3, Scarface was killed by Adder after Fox and Scarface's fight at the end of Season 2. A blue fox is not fictional, it exists. It's called the Dutch/Danish blue fox, i've seen it. An Arctic Fox is half the size of a red fox, so how on earth could it fight a red fox? Fox's Daughter Charmer falls in love with Ranger, Scarface's son, and eventually leads to a Romeo and Juliet type relationship. My favourite character from this series is Friendly, Fox's son, I can't think why, but it's just so. Any more AOFW (Animals of Farthing Wood) fans can visit and maybe register at this forum: z7.invisionfree.com/farthingwood/index.phpI'm Foxfan1992 on there. Friendlyfox1992

Wow. You're a little obsessed. That's cool.
I loved that show, I think my favourite bits were when they were travelling through the city and sleeping in the church and stuff. And any stuff with the fox soap opera. I vaguely remember fox being seperated from the gang and coming back with his foxy ho, I mean Vixen. That was cool.
The first series was genius, all those violent deaths intended to teach us stuff. Proper childrens viewing. The other series became a bit pants, it essentially turned into a Fox soap opera, which was cool, but I think I ultimately got bored and just wanted to watch the Montagu/ Capulet fox action, not any of the other ones.
Instead of doing a DVD of the second series and beyond, they should just edit it down to the fox storyline and show us that. I'd buy that.
I've got the music running through my head now....

My flatmate and I spent 10 minutes last night having a conversation as Badger and Moley.
That is all.
