Seeing Ron Perlman as Hell Boy made me all nostalgic for this. Does anyone else remember this bizarre series from the late 80s? Did we ever get an explanation to why Vincent had turned out like a mutant? Why were those people living under the city in the first place? Why didn't Ron Perlman look any different without the make up on?

Why has Jocelyn Wildenstein made it her life's work to acquire a face exactly like Ron Perlman's in this TV classic? Or she could simply be the inspiration for the Bo Selecta face. I remember this series. It seemed to be the same every week, and the Beast lived underground with some sort of benevolent creator / guardian, didn't he?

It was one of those shows that ITV used to buy and after 5 episodes suddenly shunted to 11pm from primetime.
I'm not sure if the final season ever got a terrestrial showing.

Klee, please give some sort of warning before putting pictures of the Bride of Wildenstein up. Some of us were eating.
I do like the title of the video though, Though lovers be lost. The use of the present subjunctive gave me lovely warm feeling.*

I never missed an episode of that (weirdo!) It was heavily cut though, for the violence in it. Ron Perlman`s voice was sexy and somebody on TV once compared the lead singer of Iron Maiden, Bruce Dickinson to him!( when Bruce had long hair)

Ooh, this used to be on the Paramount Channel, before the addition of the word 'comedy' to the channel's title. It was what introduced me to my beloved Mailbox all those years ago. Ah, memories...

Elmly,What do you mean by"Mailbox"? I'm sure I've sent you the link before. It used to be the teletext on Paramount, now it's at www.newmailbox.co.uk and it's been a part of my life for about 8 years now. Makes me very happy.

my "sort of" girlfriend at college was obsessed with this programme. She wasnt best pleased when i said that Linda Hamilton always seemed to have a "stunned sheep" expression.
Elm, I must be stupid today, i still dont understand what Mailbox actually is.

It's not really anything Max, it's just a bit of fun I suppose. Its only equivalent still extant is Mega-Zine on channel 4, but that's always been a bit wanky and is for under fifteens only. Anyway what happened was, the Paramount channel used to have a teletext service run in-house by this one guy who's fantastic and has a real love for the medium. Its letters page was called, reasonably enough, Mailbox. It started as a place simply to ask questions about the channel but as it was updated so frequently- every day in the start- it became a sort of meeting place. It went to three times weekly and then two, but from the end of 1995 to May this year it ran on the channel. I used to phone up each night (as Sugarplum, in case you're interested) when I lived in Southampton, and then I lost touch for a little bit when I moved here (no Paramount). I found the website after a while, and was back into it under this name. In May Ed (he doesn't like his real name shared) stopped running the text service. It was taken over by the people who run the Paramount website apparently, but I've not seen the new version. If you do, tell me what it's like. Anyway we mailboxers are still in touch via the newmailbox site, and I'm really fond of it. He's one of my favourite people, funny and intelligent and lovely all round. But I suppose if you haven't been involved for years the way most of the mailboxers have, you might or you might not 'get' it. PJ/Lowculture types are more likely to than most people though.

oic, thanks - i'll take a look.
btw - i admire your use of "extant". Sometimes i use this word at work to confuse my boss who has no idea what it means and is too arrogant to ask or look it up. He's got a new Audi convertible and on its first day he happened to arrive at the same moment as me. I ignored it and said "morning jason" as usual. Ha.
