Does ordering series one and two on DVD make me the biggest geek ever? If so, I care not.
I loved The X Files when I was in school, so very much. I've not watched it in years though, losing interest around series five (looking through episode guides, I recognise most of the episode titles, and could give you a vague idea of what they're about, up until S5). I've got so much useless knowledge in my head though -- why do I know that Scully's dog is called Quequeg, so named after a character in Moby Dick, which her father used to read to her as a child? I did some work on my uni course on how The X Files was one of the first television series to foster avid viewing, using the internet and selfreferential worlds to do so, and judging by the amount of trivia I've just unlocked in my brain, it really must've worked.
Anyway, eeeeeeeeeeee.
I'm very excited for my DVDs to arrive.

Does ordering series one and two on DVD make me the biggest geek ever? If so, I care not. Not at all, I'd do it too if I had the money. Luckily they're repeating those series on Sky One at the moment so I can see them there. I only started watching when Series 5 came on because before it was on too late for me to watch (I'm only 17 now). So now I've been trying to catch up on the earlier episodes. I do love The X Files though up until whenever it was that Mulder left which is when I stopped watching except for the episodes that he came back in.

See, I sort of lost interest when filming moved from Vancouver to LA.
Were you a casual fan or are the later four/five series worth it?
If it hasn't dated horribly, I may consider buying more.
They're not that expensive on Amazon. I think they're cheaper boxes in the boxsets (no Buffy glamour), so the first three series are only twenty five quid each. They're released in the second week of October.

The b/f has lots of X Files videos at home. I was watching some of them a little while back.
Up to about series five and they're good entertainment, though after that it starts getting a bit Babylon 5 (intricate plot designed only to be liked by obsessives) on us.
One you have have have to own, however, (I'm not sure which series it is) is the episode about the facially disfigured mutant who's obsessed with Cher. High-larious.

Were you a casual fan or are the later four/five series worth it? I was an obsessive fan. I think I spent most of Year 9 telling everyone ever everything I could about The X Files. I heard that most people like series 4 the best so I suppose getting that would be worth it, my favourite is 5 but thats only because its the first series I watched. If they're that cheap I might consider buying a series, especially as we got a DVD player today. Thats from series 5, its great.

The only thing that has dated is Scully's clothing.

This is the only episode I really liked. I kept waiting for it to go into colour. I particularly enjoyed the mutant, flanked by M&S, grooving it down in Vegas to walking in Memphis. If only the rest of the series had been as fun.

I loved The X Files!
I've got seasons 1-4 on video boxsets and most of the special little x files they realeased alone, and the two versions of the movie (special version isnt really that special).
I kind of stopped watching half way through season 9 though but i tuned in for the finale.
I still watch the repeats on sky one does that make me sad?
The Gunmen were ace.

I watched the first few series then started going off it. It was excellent at the beginning and I loved the Scully abducted by aliens one

Thankfully they're re-releasing all the DVD sets at bargain prices. I thought Season 9 was pretty good, especially the episode "Release".

Amazing how quickly we forget what a *phenomenon* this show really was, when you would walk into HMV and be bombarded by X Files videos, books, magazines, calendars, trading cards, mousemats, tea cosies etc. And Gillian Anderson was probably the most photographed woman on the planet.

I loved The X Files, but always got too over-relaxed while watching the show so ended up falling asleep before the end. In retrospect, the Playstation game was rubbish, but I thought it was the greatest thing ever when I bought it. I've been toying with the idea of getting Kolchak: The Night Stalker on DVD. Appaently, this show inspired the X Files and Kolchak is supposed to be the "original Mulder" but in 1970s Las Vegas. How cool does he look?

What a treat! Living started showing the X Files from the start last week. It seems to be on pretty much every night at 7pm. I always thought Gillian Anderson was the epitome of glamour, but her hair and clothes were really dodgy at the start.

That reminds me, I discovered they remade Night Stalker in 2005, but it got cancelled with the last episode, written by X Files legend, Darin Morgan, not being shown.
