Was City Central (BBC Saturday night prime-time Casualty-slot police drama based in Manchester, initially perceived by the public as a vehicle for Paul Nicholls but was in fact a superb ensemble show that prospered without him when he got shot at the start of the second series by Andrew Lancel who was bad and took Sgt Hemingway's son under his wing and then tied him to to a kitchen chair and left the gas running so that when Sgt Hemingway got home and turned the light on she blew up the whole house in a HUGE explosion and it also had the bloke who played Mubbs in Holby in it but he was a really good policeman in this and Dave Hill who's in everything and there was a fantastic scene at the end of the first series - I think - where they were chasing the bloke who turned out to be the serial killer throughout the series and they were playing 'Furryvision' by Super Furry Animals and it was all just fucking excellent and the theme music was brilliant as well) as good as I remember it being?
Because I remember it being really, really good.

I remember it being a bit crap, apart from the one where the sergeant blew up her own house, which was fucking brilliant. We don't see enough of that actress anymore. She did put upon arsey northern woman like no one else.

Is this the one where the blonde student from Hollyoaks (Joanna someone, who played Geri) turned up at the beginning of the second/third series and she'd been FIXING A CAR to prove she was nothing like her Hollyoaks character at all?

I dunno. There was someone from Hollyoaks in Merseybeat.
City Central was NOT Merseybeat. City Central deserved its primetime weekend slot.
Ashley Jensen was in it. She was fantastic. She was married to The Bloke Who Raped Toyah Battersby Who I Walked Past In Piccadilly Station Once in Clocking Off. She's in Extras this week, and forever.

It was probably Merseybeat. It didn't have anything as exciting as a blown-up house in it. BUT! The first episode of City Central was great, until it clashed with something my idiotic family preferred. Paul Nicholls definitely did some running and was more interesting than when he was in The Biz or EastEnders.

I never forgave myself for missing most of the schizophrenia storyling in Eastenders.
I stopped watching this after Paul Nicholls died. Ahem.
