And it's lesser successor (oooo, that rhymes), Late Lunch.
I think we need it back. It left a gap in the schedule that no one's ever really been able to fill.
And the lame jokes and skits were awesome. Play Lunch is still my favourite after all this time:
MEL: Hello children everywhere, and welcome to Play Lunch! SUE: [overenunciating] The television show for children that doesn't patronise you. [Beat] Sorry little ones: patronise, that means to talk down to somebody. P-A-T-R-O-N-I-S...E.

I nearly cracked a rib when they brought in the cast of London's Burning and made them sing 'London's Burning' as a round. Sheer brilliance.
Also I loved Sue's tendency to follow the lamest of jokes with 'Feel the pain! Get involved!'*
We should start a petition to get it back or something.
*It's entirely possible that this only ever happened once.

I liked it when they totally ripped the piss out of Blue Peter sacking Richard Bacon and one of them was impersonating the, then head controller of CBBC.

And the Queen. Don't forget Mel's impressions of the Queen. They were also ace in a distinctly rubbish/fabulous way.
Light Lunch was inspired telly - it is directly responsible for me only attending half of my French 'A' Level lectures. Personal favourite was the one where they had Jennifer Saunders, Joanna Lumley and June Whitfield on to talk about Absolutely Fabulous.

Oh! And the Neighbours sketch that revolved entirely around the mispronunciation of the word "six".
"I'll see you in the coffee shop at suxxxx".

Actually, the best sketch came in the late-night one after Madonna dropped out, and they did a rip-off of the Frozen video called It's Freezing. "Love is a dog, or maybe a horse / Love is a chicken in tarragon sauce / It's freezing / And we're only wearing G-strings..."
ALSO! During the Weatherfield One hysteria that was gripping the nation, Mel took us to the break with, "Keep watching, keep lunching, and KEEP DIRDRE IN PRISON!" whilst Sue pulled a Dierdre face and muttered "I'm innocent, I'm innocent" towards the sky.
Oh! And the studio band. They were called Ace of Pastry Base one week, and another week they were a mixture of Underworld and Menswear, called Underwear. They wore only their pants. Jackie Collins seemed very interested. (They made her play darts.)

With Richard & Judy finishing at the end of the year, Channel 4 must be tearing their hair out looking for a replacement. I'd like us all to petition them and ask for 'Light Lunch' to come back in the time slot! Obviously it would have to be called 'Late Lunch' but it would have to be exactly the 'Light Lunch' formula we knew and loved before they messed with it. It would be ideal. Let's have Mel, Sue, Steve, Matt, Dylan and Dan back where they belong! www.mabey1.force9.co.uk/lightlunch/sounds/intro.wav

I absolutely loved this show.
It got me through my first year at uni in a relatively good financial state, as I always went back to my halls of residence to watch it instead of going to the union.
My favourite was one Xmas, when Mel got drunk and just descended into hysterics whenever anyone asked her anything.

I too love this- "the showbiz bird tells me...." used to always crack me up.
Its actually a great format- TV seems completely obsessed with cookery and celebrities- its the perfect fit.
