www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B000FVX6PA/026-5127016-1012442?v=glance&n=283926I am so excited by this. I will be able to relive my young crush on Danny, and sing weepily along with "Starmaker". Who will join me in my nostalgia for the greatest tv wallow in schmaltzy sentimentality known to man? (I wept in every episode, sometimes because it was sad, sometimes because it was triumphant. )

I used to sit on the 'Fame bench' the morning after each episode with Sarah, Sara and Michelle. We used to recite the dialog, sing the songs and sometimes even try the dance steps.
Do you remember when Bruno was singing about Mr Sharovski not realising he was in the room!!!!
And what about Leroy being asked to wear a jock strap because his massive knob was a distraction for all the girls* in class, apart from CoCo because she was so cool.
I always wished my school would spontaneously break out into choreographed singing and dancing, but the other boys just didn't seem interested.
*and perhaps some of the boys

I loved Fame and have so many memories of it. I was at High School at the time and it was so uncool to like it, so I remember having to go into Woolies on a quiet day to buy the LPs, so as no one would see me. The off the shoulder sweatshirt with vest underneath should have been a giveaway though! I hearted Doris. She has her own website - www.valerielandsburg.com - and so much more could have been made of Montgomery. I also remember, when it was going off the boil a bit, they did a bizarre Wizard of Oz episode. "I Still Believe in Me" can still bring a lump to my throat.

My friend asked me the other day what I thought about the Wizard of Oz episode, and strangely I have no recollection of it. This worries me. Starmaker is actually, worryingly, sadly, alarmingly, one of my favourite songs ever. And as I am mainly a rock fan it remains incongruously on my MP3 player between Foo fighters and Courtney Love. And it makes me sway and do hand movements.

Starmaker was on TMF recently. I'm a bit too young for Fame, so it was new to me/us. We watched it, startled.
'Startled' is the kindest word I could use.

And we still haven't got to Erica and The Stick.
"... so happy now, weeee're so happy noooooow"
Desdemona is a brilliant song too.

I cannot WAIT for the DVD release. Fame was just utter class, but there are gaps in my Fame-knowledge. I remember the creepy Donnie Osmand Learning Disability Sex Misunderstanding story only too well, but apparently Janet Jackson was also in the series aaaaaaaand rumour "has it" that at the time she was secretly preganant in real life with a baby that she gave away to her sister because her husband was a nutter.

I was born in a charming popular culture gap which allowed me to miss the films Grease, Saturday Night Fever and Fame. Instead, I was introduced to the franchises through Grease 2, Stayin' Alive and the Fame TV series. They are all still the authentic standards to me. Irene Cara will never be MY Coco.

Me too, I was raised on the TV series, and still remember the horror of seeing the film for the first time and seeing people like Doris and Coco played by other people.

The film is quite dark too. Doesn't Dr Romano from ER kill himself or something?

I Sky plussed the film a few weeks ago and was disturbed. They're not the real kids from Fame at all. Apart from Leroy. It's unwatchable, I view in 10 minute bursts. Doris is so very wrong.

As I vaguely recall, the tv soundtracks were marketed more as novelty soundtracks here in the US. They may have spawned one or two singles, but there was no musical phenomenon associated with the series. I remember wanting one of the soundtracks, but I probably opted for a copy of The Pirate Movie soundtrack instead.

Loved Debbie Allen as the dedicated, demanding dance teacher, "Miss. Grant".
"You want fame... well fame has a price and right here's where you start payin'..... in sweat!"
Favourite character was probably Julie the cellist though.

I went through a period of time at school where I was convinced I WAS actually Doris, I think.
I was at my cousins in Canada last year and they were showing an episode a day. Which totally confused my cousin as she'd stumble across me welling up, on a daily basis, singing my heart out to the likes of Starmaker, etc as I generally spend my time talking to her about rock and metal bands she's never heard of !
