Seeing as I was a toddler when it was first shown, I never got into Dallas. When I was in China I got the dvd set of season one and season 2 and am halfway through season two.
It's completely utterly ace. I love how every episode there is either a) someone new who comes in who wants to con them out of money b) someone who will try and kidnap them/hold a gun to their head to get money.
Pamela is ace, she seems the cleverest out of all of them. And yes I love all the bitching and fighting in between them. Sue Ellen's vowels are the aces as well, 'poo-are' 'shoe-are.' etc.
Also, apparently Lesly-Anne Down, she of Sunset Beach fame was in it. And Priscilla Presley!

You made me watch Dallas! I say made me...
Love it! As I said, J.R. is a bad'un, but I do love him. He is a little bit sexy I think.
I particularly love Sue-Ellen pushing J.R. so that they can appear to be the better couple to Bobby and Pammy. Imagine how pushy a mum she'd be if they did have a kid.
I don't like Bobby. He's too good. Whiter than white. And he ruins the whole programme by being so unbelievable.
Joch looks like a paedophile too.

I've been catching up with the DVDs too and Dallas is just a classic - the "daddy" of the "we're rich and we're all cunts" 1980's supersoap genre.
Fantastic characters and acting - J.R., the Texan AntiChrist of the oil industry who still loves his momma and daddy. Sue Ellen, who makes alcoholism and sexual ennui in marriage look positively glamorous. Cliff Barnes the perpetual loser, Miss Ellie's mix of softness and grit.... but then there's boring Bobby and Pam, and spawn of the devil Lucy Ewing.
Everything up until "Pam's Dream" is great stuff, despite the misstep of walking waxwork Donna Reed playing Miss Ellie for a season when Barbara Bel Geddes was off sick.
Everything after that is pretty piss-poor, although you do get to see Pam deservedly burnt to a crisp and Sue Ellen copping off with Lovejoy.

Lesley-Anne Down played a PR consultant during the later (i.e. crap) years of the show.
Priscilla Presley - she whose unfortunate plastic surgery has changed the expression on her face to a permanent mirthless smirk - played Bobby's former love Jenna Wade. Priscilla was actually the third actress to play Jenna in the show - the first and IMO, best was Morgan Fairchild - the patron saint of 1980's Big-Haired Blondes.

I've just finished watching the second box set and J.R. has been shot.
Amazing to think they actually kept this cliffhanger (who shot J.R.?) a total secret back in 1980.
There's no way they'd pull it off now.

I ordered box set one of this when I was extremely pissed, and have no recollection of doing so. It arrived when I was really hungover (from a different drinking session), so when I started watching it I couldn't understand what they were all saying and the trying really hurt. I need to give it another go.

Just to point out that Dallas is being shown every day on UKGold. It only started at the weekend (I think) so you haven't missed much.

The genius that was Episode 2 had Pam and Bobby disco dancing to a disco version of the Dallas Theme.

There are clips of Bobby and Pam at the disco on YouTube but they've been mixed to other music sadly.

There was a great episode shown this week which will be repeated over the weekend. Lucy becomes engaged to a 'hummersexual'. JR of course knows, but is all for the marriage as his family own an oil refinery.
Again, some of the disco scenes are great. Especially the glitterball with the neon rings around it to make it look like a disco Saturn. Also a great moment when the fiance's 'room mate from college' turns up and gives him a longing look. Great early drunk action from Sue Ellen too.

Oh wow I caught an episode on Tuesday and I couldn't believe how fantastic it was. It's the first time I've seen it since I was but a small child. How classy are the opening credits? Oh I love Cliff Barnes so much. Gah, I wish UKTV Gold would do a marathon catch-up weekend. But I'll look for the dvds. The UKTV Gold website has an ace Dallas section: uktv.co.uk/index.cfm/uktv/Gold.homepage/sid/6165

I hadn't realised how handsome Dusty Farlow was. Watching it as a kid they all seemed like old people to me. Nowadays I can even appreciate what a good looking old man Jock was (although not my type. Yet!).

I hadn't realised how handsome Dusty Farlow was. Watching it as a kid they all seemed like old people to me. Nowadays I can even appreciate what a good looking old man Jock was (although not my type. Yet!). I know, I used to think they were ancient and Larry Hagman is just about 40. On the Dallas forum where people are suggesting their dream cast for the forthcoming film, everyone is talking about actors who are in their 60s and 70s for people like Cliff Barnes and JR. Miss Ellie was probably only about mid-50s ish when it started. I kept missing it on UKTV Gold so got the box set the other day. The second episode of season one contains the GREATEST scenes I have ever witnessed: There is a new "disco" opening down the road from South Fork. Pam and Bobby go to the opening night and there's a fantastic protracted scene of them dancing in the disco style. The DJ then puts on a disco remix of the Dallas theme! Lucy is there with a boy who is blackmailing her because he knows she is lying about her teacher trying to rape her. But she hates the lad and tries to get off with Ray Krebbs. Bobby batters Ray, not just because he's been shagging Lucy, but also because he used to shag Pam. It's completely magic!!!

If I had a Tardis, to hell with taking over the Universe, Master style, I'd be straight to 70s Dallas to go disco dancing. What's up with these Time Lords?

Not quite to the same level but I did get very excited by the Cliff Barnes for Congress Roller Disco the other day. Lucy in white shorts and T-shirt with rainbow braces was a joy to behold.
And on the topic of Lucy, the bed scenes with Alan Beam are slightly disturbing. Do PETA know about his wearing a goat skin on his chest?

Am now up to the "Who Shot JR?" episode at the end of Season 2. Am LOVING Sue Ellen, she's marvellous. JR, Miss Ellie and Kristen are also great. Dusty is rather hot, as is Alan Beam.
Glad Digger is dead, I didn't like the second actor much. They don't seem to have realised that now that Pam is revealed not to be Digger's daughter, she can probably have a healthy child.
I also love the fact that the store Pam works at is called "The Store"!
