Anyone here remember the Krypton Factor? I found an old episode on a really old VHS tape the other day and can't stop thinking about it. The weirdest thing was watching the observation round - each week they showed a brief episode of a mocked-up drama made just for the purposes of the Krypton Factor - and this one starred Steve Coogan! I never knew...
Anyone else here got any Krypton Factor memories?

Do you have freeview? It's on all the time on the channel that may or may not be called Ftn. I could watch it for hours if only to see them messing up the plane landing. Oh, and on one of the episodes this weekend some guy slipped on the assault course and fell straight onto his man parts... and he picked himself up and went on to win - that's a level of dedication you don't see these days!

I loved it. And I totally have Ftn, I must do some K-Factoring this weekend.
I remember thinking that the contestants must have been the cleverest people in the country, but I'm sure that wasn't actually the case, it was just that I was a stupid child.
It is however quite something to make a 40 year old man whizzing down a flying fox seem futuristic and intellectual.

I only watched to see some daft bint crash a jumbo jet into the runway in the 80s state of the art flight simulator.
Oh and to see them go arse over tit in the mud at the end of the assault course.

When I was v young the only homoerotic thing on telly was watching the men do the assault course!

I was always disappointed that when they crashed the simulator, there wasn't an enormous ball of flame. And probably a few screaming passengers and bloodied corpses.
In a similar fashion, I watched the assault course in search of men receiving testicular trauma. If the penalty for not assembling the giant K in time had been decapitation, I think I would have been ecstatic.

I was surprised by how entertaining this still is to watch. And also by how much Gordon Burns looked like Dan Gillespie-Sells.
For full-on FTN homoerotic nostalgia though, check out the re-runs of Gladiators. To think I wasted time fancying Jet when I was 12, when mens' Powerball featured so much contact and so much lycra...

On a related note, Gordon Burns now presents North West Tonight. He hasn't aged whatsoever, and retains that air of steely determination (except for when he's talking about Liverpool FC, when he can't contain his enthusiasm). I keep waiting for him to inform the vacant weather girl that she can only tell us about low cloud over Macclesfield if she can first build a scale model of Sellafield in under two and a half minutes. Sadly he seems to prefer low grade flirtation.

....I can remember the days afore Coogan etc when the observation round was a clip from a British film and they then had to answer questions and then there was a real life ID parade in front of them, in which they had to spot someone who had been in the clip.
Mondays at 7:00pm in my house were sacrosanct, "The Krypton Factor" had to be on.
