Working my way through every recognisable name on on Tv-Links.co.uk, I have now arrived at Queer as Folk. I am not sure if I like it yet. I hate Stuart. None of the gayers I know lead lives quite as stereotypically seedy...Although I guess it's like Sex And The City, in theory. My friend Emma won't watch it because she thinks it's inappropriate for girls. I haven't had anyone to say "Ooh look, it's Shadrach Dingle" to.

I loved Queer as Folk, and I'm a girl. Maybe I'm just an inappropriate girl.
It does take a while to get going (I thought the first episode was crap) but when it does it's great. Vince remains one of my favorite ever TV characters, he is so lovely.
And I think you are supposed to hate Stuart. But then love him, because he is a lovable bastard, or something. I dunno, he is hot though.
ETA. I just realized how many times I have used the word love, and variations of, in one post.
So I really must have loved it, or I'm turning into one of those twins from BB.

I loved Queer as Folk too. So much in fact that I went out to buy it on video on the first day it came out (which is a bit sad). Stuart is horrible but also quite great, I'm sure most people (myself included) would like to be a bit like that, super confident and able to get anyone.
Nathan on the other hand was just an idiot and quite a crap actor.

A lot of us are inappropriate girls, then. I'm pretty sure a lot of ladies watched it - and a lot of ladies like slash, so to get something as explicit as QAF on telly was sort of a dream come true for a certain demographic.
Vince is brilliant, and even cooler now Doctor Who is so popular! Stuart is brilliant, incredibly sexy, totally bastardly and very funny. Nathan I never got. I just found him whiny, badly dressed and a bit pointless. Also Charlie Hunnam was very annoying in Young Americans.

I only saw it for the first time earlier this year when I discovered it on NTL On Demand and really enjoyed it. Having been 12 when it first aired I obviously missed it and it's quite nice to watch it completely away from any press hype and/or scandal or anything.
The ending to Series 2 (or the two episodes that somehow was considered a 'series') was just rubbish though. It made no sense and suggested that they were going into a Natural Born Homos type direction.

I sometimes watch this when I've got nothign to do and the weather's crap, which means it's on constant rotation in the autumn.
It's one of those programmes I can watch again and again and still enjoy. Russell T really shows how good a writer he is in this (and Bob and Rose which I adore), so why does eh constantly let himself down when it comes to Doctor Who?
Apparently Stuart, Vince and Nathan are supposed to represent different stereotypes of the gay scene. Stuart is supposed to be the personification and embodiment of power, that's why he has all the sex, confidence, attention and the money; Vince is the epitome of the shy, self concious underdog and Nathan the wide eyed, newly out lad up for action and adventure.
Interestingly there was a spin off in production that was to feature Donna, Hazel and Alexander called "Misfits". Russell T had written something like 12 of the planned 22 episodes and they were almost ready to film when Channel 4 pulled the plug and refused to fund it. Apparently Russ had spent months working on it assuming he'd get paid once it began filming but didn't receive a penny, therefore he'd effectively been working for nothing for months. He, understandably, threw a fit and withheld plans for The Second Coming and Bob and Rose, later giving them to ITV.

I spent a random media lesson a year ago watching queer as folk with a bunch of straight guys, who all went a bit squirmy and uncomfortable during the first episode ( the one full of lots of gay sex - if i remember rightly.)
There was 30 of us, just sitting there, whilst all the boys at the back of the room went to every effort to convince as all that, jsut because they were watching it, didn't mean they were enjoying the show. Becuase that would make them gay. right?

RTD let himself down in everything he wrote-Dark Season=3 good eps, 3 shit ones. Bob and Rose-great, weak ending. QAF-great, weak ending. That Wales thing with Griff Rhys Jones-Amazing set up, weak follow-through. Second COming-awesome first part, lousy second part.
And so on...
I want a QAF musical, with Lee Meade as stuart, Daniel Boys as Vince, Lewis as Nathan, and Seamus as some sad old queen.

I did consider that but Hazel was awesome and going on ADWD, Zoe Tyler is a bit of a hag. And I don't mean the kind that is prefaced with 'fag'.
Leona Lewis could maybe play Donna as she doesn't seem to be doing much these days.

Queer As Folk was pretty good. We spent a few media lessons on it, which may be because our media teacher was a bit of a fag hag.
I really liked Vince. In fact, he was the one all the gay lads I knew seemed to fancy rather than Stuart. I didn't mind Stuart per se, but I never quite understood why everyone on the show seemed to worship him.
Couldn't stand Nathan, annoying whiney self-centred brat that he was. I thought Donna was great though.
Charlie Hunnam's acting has never been much good. He was terrible in Nicholas Nickelby. Seeing that film just reminded me that the Charles Dance/James D'Arcy/Lee Ingleby/Sophia Myles version that had been on TV the year before was much better.

Love Queer as Folk, saw it for the firt time when i was 12 which was possibly a little too young, but it's still monumentally ace. I own it on DVD and video (got each on offer) and have watched it probably more times than is healthy!
I saw some of the american version, it's very strange as it lifts some bits straight out of the scripts of the UK one and some bits are completely different, like the Stuart character ending up the Nathan one and Vince marrying some guy with aids and having a baby with one of the lesbians. It's all very american really, thats all I can think of to describe it but it does have a load more sex in it and its a bit more graphic in places, plus the supporting characters have bigger roles though it did go on for 5 years so thats to be expected. Also, they chickened out and didn't kill the Phil character, just put him in a coma and tried to have a whole moral dilema thing about whether to take him off life support. In retrospect, it does sound a bit rubbish actually.

It has got the best yak-track on a DVD bar The League of Gentlemen. I too loved Vince at the time but after a few watches you sort of get a bit pissed off with him- he just tries to hang on to Stuart even though he will never get him- Nathan sorta owned him on a few occasions and he really deserved it. I pretty much hated how cruel he was to the girl in the supermarket (she was fab- and her love of Corrie was so sweet and pathetic). I thought series two was good but not a patch on the 1st (the lack of Donna was sickening) and giving Alexander a dramatic storyline showed up Antony cottons complete inabilty to act anyone not exactly like Antony Cotton. And the ending was unbelieable shit. Oh and Bob and Rose was AMAZING!! Starting a thread on it!
