I remember a mini series that was on BBC One (I think) in the late 80s. It followed the story of a family over several generations. I think they were called the McGregor family as I remember the main character in the beginning was called James McGregor. I think he was a diamond smuggler or something. He then went on to have lots of children and the story moved on to them as time progressed. He had twin daughters or grand daughters who were red haired and one was evil and the other good. Does anyone else remember this or was it all a dream and I made the lot up? Oh, and it wasn't Snowy River: The McGregor Saga, by the way. If anyone else does remember can you put me out of my misery and tell me what it was called?

I'll give you a quick recap then.
It starts off with lucky bitch Dyan Cannon (she was married to Cary Grant, you know?) in some appalling ageing make up, looking back over her life at her birthday party.
It starts off in South Africa with Mr McGregor (Ian Charleson, RIP, buff) who gets done over by Donald Pleasance but steals some diamonds and makes his money, and then does over Donald by marrying his daughter (lowculture favourite Cheri Lunghi) who he doesn't love. They have a son and heir, but then he gets into some pickles with the blicks, possibly over a child who was beaten to death, and then the blicks murder his son. Luckily he has a daughter then!
I can't remember how Dyan gets a son, but she does and he's played by Harry Hamlin, and I think he wants to be a painter but she's ruthless and A Bad Mother and wants him to marry someone he doesn't want to marry. But he marries Angharad Rees, and they're happy. But Angharad has a Hollyoaksesque secret - having kids could kill her, but Dyan is DESPERATE for an heir to the dynasty so she persuades Angharad to have kiddies without telling Harry, but it all goes wrong and she dies in childbirth leaving Harry to SHOOT Dyan with A GUN. Harry ends up in the nut house. Dyan is rushes to hospital and lives.
Now there's the matter of Angharad's babies to deal with, for you see she was carrying twins. One of them is lovely and one of them is evil. The evil one finds a dodgy man to marry her sister with the hope of killing her, but I don't think he does. Anyway, she becomes very vain and is always nagging this plastic surgeon to treat her for minor things (I think the brother in law beats her up at some point). Anyway one day plastic surgeon, who has fallen in love with her despite her being a NASTY PIECE OF WORK, disfigures her on purpose, meaning she'll have to wear a veil at all times and no man will look twice at her, not even John Leslie.
It wasn't as good as Judith Krantz' I'll Take Manhattan, which starred Four Time Acadamy Award Nominee Julianne Moore as India, the most famous movie star in the world, but it was still good.
