Oh ok! Everybody slates Season 7, but at the end of season 6 everyone slated that, and at the end of season 5, etc. etc..
Different people have different opinions on the best/worst seasons of Buffy. But the there is only one best season of Buffy. Season 4. The end of season 3 changed them the most and Joss wasn't scared by the fact that the library was gone, Buffy was moving out of her home, possibly the favourite character from the last series was in a coma, and the pivotal relationship that had been on and off for three years was now over.
The biggest flaw with season three was that Angel came back, which stopped it from being the best season. The biggest flaw with season 4 was the villian, Adam, which to be honest noboby was scared of, at all, possibly because season 3 had such a good baddie, but never mind.
Season 4 is the best season, because it's fresh and however much I liked the previous season, it somehow restored your faith in Joss (the creator, the god of the Buffyverse). It gave you hope that Buffy could go on forever. It also had what is considered the best Buffy episode ever, Hush. It bought Angel back, but only for closure (in The Yoko Factor my favourite episode). It made you actually hate the main character, Buffy, for being so self involved. The biggest reason this is the best series is because the sub-plots were as intresting if not more interesting than the arc storyline. The 'supporting' characters were the one's you ended up loving. This was set up in seasons two and three with 'Bewitched, Bothered and Bewildered' and 'The Zeppo' for Xander and 'The Wish' and 'Doppelganger' for Willow.
The new characters were also 10x more interesting than Angel and Cordy who we got rid of in Season 3. There was now Riley, Anya and Tara. Who great for Joss to play with!
The best thing, for me, about season 4 was it's ability to be funny, serious, cheesy, romantic, deep, shallow, light, dark, young, old, horrific, everything. From the hilarious jelousy between Angel and Riley, to the humanisation of Anya, to the breakdown of Willow's relationship with Oz, to his return, to Giles' mid-life crisis, it was so great.

It also had what is considered the best Buffy episode ever, Hush. One of the best. I've never particularly liked it.

This is an interesting way of looking at it. Were there any characters you didn't "love" until you saw their respective epsiode? I'd say most peoples adoration of Willow/Xander et al were set-up by the way they were written/acted out in Just About Ever Episode Of Buffy Ever. Agreeing with Season Four being a favourite, it has a completely different tone about it for some reason, it feels much more relaxed, freeing up all sorts of nifty possibilities (i'm thinking of Spike & Giles and the Weetabix, Tara(ohmygoodnessshe'smyfavourite) and the brilliantly rubbish Riley)

Season 4 suffered from a dose of the X-Files when it focused perhaps a little too much on the Initiative, but I still liked it a lot. Primeval is one of my favourite stories.
I was also intrigued to hear after the event that the makers were unsure up until Season Four as to who the gay character was going to be: Willow or Xander. Naturally Xander being a bummer would have been fabulous from my perspective (oh, to slip into that parallel universe) but it makes sense that they chose Willow. Let's face it, I can hardly see the prospect of boy-sex on a major teen series floating the Mid-West's boat.
Personally I'm rather a fan of Season 5, even though Dawn deserves to be hauled out over hot coals and fed to hungry wolves throughout it. I try not to have 'favourites' though, as I think it tends to be a limitation on your enjoyment.

It's quite hard to decide though, as the series went on they became good for different reasons. season 4 onwards were perhaps not as consistantly good and had lots of bad bits, but when they were good, they were pretty amazing. Thinking about the best episodes from the whole series, I can only think of 2 or 3 from before season 4 that would be on the list, but most of the awful episodes would be from after that point aswell.

True. My bad. Series 3 was where he dropped from the sky (ok hell or whatever) naked, and was a bit feral for a while, right? That was good too.

Faith came back though and better than ever.
I used to think Willow was I waste of space (I know, the craziness that was me).
Hush isn't my personal favourite, but it usually tops the polls that I've seen (that and The Body).
Dawn was evil in Season 5, but redemed herself by fancing a vamp then staking him with a pencil.
Season 2 was too drab to be my favourite, it was the 'drama' season. Though, I love so many of the episodes.
Angel, hmmm, he just got boring, all moody, you couldn't go to far with him which is why I think that his spin-off show didn't get such a warm reception.
And everyone says that Willow's gay, and she even says it herself, but surely she's bi-sexual if she was in love with Oz. And Xander could never be gay, except the fact he's kinda' camp, his two best friends are women, wait a minute......

If you look at the seasons as continual stories then 3 and two are both very good. It's almost hardto tease them apart. Formy personal taste two was too angsty, so it's beaten by three, but othersmay disagree. However if you're looking at the high quality of individual episodes (and lack of shit ones) then it comes down to seven. Although as a seriesit was a bit confused it had someof the greatest Buffies ever. Selfless, Lies my Parents told me and Storyteller were all beyond excellent, and though it suffered for failing to meet the weight of expectations heaped upon it, Chosen was a funny, moving and apt send off. Inmy opinion, no other series had so many classics and so by this measure seven is the best.
Four was alright, but it did have Beer Bad and the pointless porn episode.

2, 3, 4 and 5 are all great. Season 1 has charm but is a bit embarrassing, and the last two seasons were a total waste of space. I just pretend Buffy ended when she died in 'The Gift' and leave it at that.

Four was alright, but it did have Beer Bad and the pointless porn episode. Beer Bad was funny, there was lot's of Buffy kicking men's arses and Xander being the real hero and Willow laughing in silly Parker's face. Plus, fire, cavemen, Buffy hitting people, posh guys being plonkers and jelous. Where The Wild Things Are, wasn't that bad. It was a pretty good story. The whole bath thing was kind of freaky and the wall giving you orgasms. But it was a little similar to Fear Itself. But Riley, practically naked, why is this a bad thing? If you ask me the whole Buffy/Spike storyline of seven 6 was waaaaaayyyyy more pornesque (and I don't want to see James Marsters butt 10 times every episode).

I think the best ending would've been for Willow to end the world, or any other loveable character. Xander maybe.

Thank God, someone else who doesn't hate season 6. I'm not really an avid Buffy fan, but I thought there were some awesome moments in season 6, and the finale just about killed me. Xander was, and always has been, amazing. Just a shame they completely screwed around with his and Willow's characters in season 7 to fit in with the whole Buffy/Spike saga.

I just pretend Buffy ended when she died in 'The Gift' and leave it at that. Nooo, then you miss the musical! You must pretend it ended after 'Normal Again' in Season Six, when we find out it's all* in Buffy's mental head. * possibly

I'm a huge fan of Buffy, and I think all seasons have been good. I agree that season 4 was a really good one, but there were certain aspects of it that I didn't like. As somebody else mentioned, I think the whole ordeal over the initiative was slightly annoying, and I wasn't mad about the last episode 'Restless' either. Although I think it was good, and very clever with all the foretelling, I enjoyed the previous episode 'Primeval' more, and it would also have been a good way to finish. The thing i liked the most about season 4 was that it was all about Buffy growing. Season 5 had more obvious issues regarding this, but in season 4 it was done mores subtly. In season 5, Buffy finds herself having to protect Dawn and act as a mothering figure, and she has to deal with Riley's departure. However in season 4, we see Buffy learn to cope with what happened with Parker, and she learns to live on her own and depend more on herself, which is something that many people have to cope with on a day to day basis. (I do understand this message will have no sense to those of you that haven't watched every single episode of Buffy. lol) Also, I liked the idea of the whole programme ending after the episode 'Normal Again.' Very interesting view point.TEXT What do you think?
