What a shock that Anthony Minghella has died suddenly aged 54.
He always seemed so passionate about his work and I'm so looking forward to 'The No. 1 Ladies’ Detective Agency' over Easter.

I was shocked at that, too. I hope the No 1 Detective Agency is a fitting tribute to him.

Very very sad - he did some brilliant work (I loved his Morse episodes) and The English Patient is a masterpiece, even if I do cry from the opening to finishing credits.

I was quite upset and surprised - I hadn't realised he'd been ill.
His 3 period films were all flawlessly sublime - the casts he assembled are a testament to how well he regarded he was by actors, and it's nice he got to appear in front of the camera for Atonement, a film that could have been directed by him.
The scene in The English Patient where Juliette Binoche is hoisted up into the church tower to look at the paintings is the most magical scene I've ever seen in the cinema.

Would it be woefully inappropriate if I offered myself to his son Max for comfort?
