I thought something had happened the other day when I realised Rufus had been smirking at me from the shelf in Borders for far too long.
It's a shame because out of all the gay mags it's the least worst. I'm not saying it's good because the amount of typos and errors that occur really shouldn't be in a magazine that's so established. But I always enjoyed it anyway.

I will be sad to see attitude go. Not that I read it. My gay magazine of choice is GQ - all the stuff with bummer appeal, but without the seedy side of things.

bummer appeal, but without the seedy side of things. I'm going to start describing myself as that. Attitude has now become the elderly relative that keeps almost dying but ends up holding on for another few months and no-one wants to be the one that suggests switching off the life support. It reminds me of one of my favourite scenes from The Smoking Room.

I'm sure there's a Rupert Everett-style comment about how nobody wants an old gay that would be fitting here.

Can someone clarify what has happened to this month's issue? Has it folded for good or just on a break?

I blame Barrowman. He ruins everything else. He probably broke the printing machine when he lobbed out his huge dick FOR A LAUGH! Cos he's funny like that, you see

Shame - I was hoping for some feature on the comeback of Darren Hayes in the next couple of issues. Is it a problem with the printers/publishers or is it something else this time?

Perhaps Adam Mattera sits around all day listening to Diana Ross and forgets that another edition has to be published each month?!
Attitude is a strange beast - I always think it should be really valued as it does offer something different to the likes of GT and the rest.
However, I can't help but notice that the layout of Attitude hasn't changed since I first started buying it in 1995 (yes I'm old): Letter of the Week is a letter which thanks Attitude for whoever is on the cover (EVERY SINGLE MONTH); opinion columns which recycle the same viewpoints over and over again; reviews at the back which are all out of date by the time you get to read the mag; plus 10 year old porny ads.

As far as I've heard, the staff hadn't been paid since April, despite repeated assurances from the start-up company who bought it after it went tits-up last time, and so declined to produce any further issues until they were.

Is this gone for good then or is it still officially "on hold"?

Even though my subscription ended months ago, I got a letter from them today. The main points were:
Unfortunately due to both financial restructuring within the company and a flood at the printers based up North we have been unable to produce a July issue.
We will however, be printing a July/August issue which will be on sale around 10th August and will be numbered as issue 158.
Hmm.

That's right, blame it on the floods. Whatever. Just come out and say you've screwed up and it'll all be back up and running soon.
The JulyAugust issue sounds dreadful though. I very much doubt it'll be like the Summer Special that Woman's Own does, where it's twice as thick and comes with some short stories and a few extra crosswords. It'll more than likely be out of date feature previews and reviews of things that have already happened. but then again, isn't it always?

Short stories and crosswords might be quite good in Attitude.

I'd expect the answers to be spelt wrong though and half of them to be 'Barrowman'.

I love the fact that the official correspondence features the phrase "up North", cos places above St Albans don't have names you see.

I love the fact that the official correspondence features the phrase "up North", cos places above St Albans don't have names you see. It also implies that anyone north of, say, Dunstable wouldn't be a subscriber to that letter. To paraphrase the great Susie Blake, presumably this is because we are out with our whippets.

Well, there's a new cover picture (featuring Darren Hayes, which is most exciting) on the Attitude myspace page, but it has yet to materialise in the shops, as far as I can see.

I wonder if now would be a good time to try my luck and submit an article, even though i'm a student who's only ever been published in his student paper? Maybe they'd be that desperate?

I suppose we can't really comment on it here, but I like the way he waited until his (quite good at first listen) new album is out in the shops before handing himself in.

I note that the new Attitude isn't actually available in any tangible way, such as being purchasable in WH Smith.
