Did anyone else get this on Sunday? It was a top 100 british albums poll. I couldn't help but zip thru it going boring, boring, boring. There was a good piece in there by Miranda Sawyer on how it's a spoddy blokes list and as such doesn't acknowledge anything other than spoddy bloke bands. And lo, is that a picture of mr P.J himself looking all fresh faced and much more attractive than I had imagined...

I liked the articles too, I read them aloud to my music-geek boyfriend, stressing the part about the single being pop's natural medium, and the fact that compiling 100 BEST lists is a boy thing, whilst girls only like lists if they are THINGS TO DO lists.

The Observer Music Monthly pretty much forgot to be readable this month - what sort of a wanky list is "the 100 Most British Albums" anyway? Just because it is The FootballTM and we are all meant to be feeling patriotic does not mean more people are likely to buy London Calling by The Clash. Everyone has it anyway.
I quite liked the various sleb Top Tens going on, with Mike Skinner putting his own in there. But it was not its usual self. (Also, I thought there was meant to be a big article about Brian Higgins and Xenomania, but I was wrong, and it made me say hmmph.)

I agree with all of that, normally I can't wait for a month to go by for OMM because I really enjoy reading it, but this month I was disappointed. After the first one, I got a bit too excited over it, especially as it featured my favourite band everr - blur and the week after, in my excitment, I made my mum ring up our newsagents asking why they hadn't sent it to us and demanding them to bring it over as quickly as possible. I didn't quite get what the Monthly in Observer Music Monthly stood for.
