I remember reading a book when I was younger in which the characters found a way to magically get the next day's paper & started betting on the horses they knew would win, but then got greedy, fell out etc...would love to know what it was called, don't think it was a kids book. I remember they had a glass topped coffee table if that's any help...

I keep a notebook in which I write the titles of books I've enjoyed. Tip you might like to try in the future- it's very hard to find out this kind of thing afterwards, much more difficult than with music.

She has kept it since 1980. Even if she writes every book she reads and not what she thinks about the book. Or what it's about.

We had to keep a reading diary at junior school. It was supposed to be for the use of, if anyone was thinking of reading a book but wasnt sure they could look at someones reading diary who'd read it and then decide. Didnt work out that way since no one could be bothered with all that.

I had to too. Looking back on it I guess it was just a good way of helping children learn how to form opinions and retain information. Or something. And shut them up for a bit.

Also there was a Carry On film where Hattie Jacques' budgie would predict for Sid James which horse was going to win the race.
But that was not really the same at all.
