Wyoming Stories - Annie Proulx Following the advice of Splendid_Chaps I decided to read this book, so that when Brokeback Mountain was released I could say 'Oh, the book was so much better'. Having enjoyed a couple of her novels I knew what I'd be letting myself in for, Proulx's prose is an aquired taste sometimes almost impressionist. In her novels this can be tiring to read, but works so much better for the short stories in this collection. The tales throw you all over the state, rodeo's, cows, cars, frozen wastes, talking tractors, deaths and births. Some short some longer they all fit really well together perhaps making this her best novel so far! I predict Brokeback Mountain will not work on the screen, yes there's the sex in it but what will be hardest to portray will be the more subtle emotions of love and trust - it's a heart breaking love story which bought tears to my eyes. I give this book A+
