I would like to waffle on about my favorite author for a while if I may... May I intorduce you to Charles de lint, he loves to combine music with writing and you get the impression that the whole book is lyrical because of it. He writes urban fantasy, taking old stories of native american spirituality, celtic folklaw, Irish fairy tales and weaving them into modern cities and people. There is 3 different aspects to his work. His newford collections: these are collections of short stories all based around a city called newford in north america and the people and friendships within it, a lot of the people who live there have had their tales told as whole novels also such as Memory and Dream ( a story of an artist who's painings open portals into somewhere else and cloth spirits in her reprisentations) or the Onion Girl (the story of Jilly Coopercorn) He writes many novels such as Mulengro (about a gypsy murderer and gypsy magic) and Moonheart (about a girl who discovers that the house she lives in is a portal to the spirit relms) He also writes horror under another name, but these are being re-released in his own name. I can enthuse enough about this guy www.charlesdelint.com

Are you Charles De Lint, by any chance? Anyway, I'll bear him in mind. If you want master of surreal, pure genius literature then it's Haruki Murakami you're after.
