Out of interest, having never read anything by her before, I started reading The Stud today. Apparently it's a camp classic, but my god it's AWFUL. Are all her books so bad? Why is she such a legend?

Surely so-crap-it's-good irony doesn't normally sell quite so much?

I've never read an entire book of Jackie's, but as a young teen, me and my mates would read the sex bits. I think her popularity is largely down to the fact that for a long time she was a reliable source of erotica for women. The availability of internet porn must have really put a dent in her sales.

Ha ha, that is so true. When I was a young girl, in a world before the internet, Jackie Collins was the sort of book you could buy pretending to like her pacy adventure, but really for you to thrill to the rude bits. I loved her. As an adult I haven't read her and can't imagine ever doing so again, but there is a certain kind of youngish woman who like her as a beach read.

I've read The Bitch (I chose it solely on its name - yes I am that gay) and it's foul. I loved it. I particularly remember a scene where someone's congealed semen had been left on the protagonist's bed. Classic
