I urge all of you to go and buy a copy of an Augusten Burroughs book. They are the absolute bollocks. I read Running With Scissors (of which the film starring Gwynnie, Joseph Fiennes and Alec Baldwin is due out soon), Dry, Magical Thinking and Sellevision in 2 weeks. I could not put them down.
‘Scissors’ and ‘Dry’ are autobiographies (the former being the story of his dysfunctional childhood growing up in the house of a mental psychologist, the latter his adult life story through alcoholism). ‘Magical Thinking’ is a collection of short true stories and ‘Sellevision’ is his first work of fiction - the story of what happened after the leading presenter on a national home shopping channel accidentally exposes himself to the children of America.
I honestly have never enjoyed an author’s work so much in all my life. Each book is as funny as the next and so addictive.
Anyone else read anything by him?
