i finished this last week, it was bloody fantastic, Sara's passages in particular were very moving. i've not seen the film version (don't you think they always ruin good books? i'm not going to watch Perfume either) have any other LCers read this?

No you need to watch the film of it.. It is one of my favourite things ever.
It is like American Beauty meets Trainspotting..In my mind anyway.

a funny thing: you know when you read you picture the characters playing out the scenes in your head, well i imagined Harry as Giovani Ribisi (sp? he was Phoebe's brother Frank in friends), and according to IMDB he was offered the role. i may well check this film out, if it's half as good as the book it will be...well, bloody good.

he's an incredible writer, such a shame that he's almost completely unknown whilst fucking dribble like harry potter is lauded by idiots everywhere. Anyway, the film is very good, i was surprised by how closely the director stuck to the story. Check out Last Exit to Brooklyn, i think it's probably Selby's best. The film of that is excellent too

"Requiem for a Dream" is an OK movie but I found the Ellen Burstyn scenes far more interesting than Jared Leto and Marlon Wayans bits whilst the least said about Jennifer Connelly being dildoed the better.

The film made me want to curl into a ball and rock back and forth, thinking of happy times and things thatcouldnevereverpossiblydestroyus. It is a horribly disturbing film. It should be shown in schools everywhere. The kids would never want to do drugz.

I loved the film- such a dark outlook on the world and what addiction of any type can do to you. Brilliant.

well, i finally finished last exit (i did read a couple of other books in between). i'd heartily recommend it, once you slip into the style of writing it's very absorbing. gritty, sad, and quite hard to read at times (ie tralala).
has anyone read the room and/or the demon by selby? if so, are they any good?
