From DigitalSpy : Geri Halliwell is to follow in Madonna's footsteps by becoming a children's author.
The former Spice Girl, who announced that she was quitting the pop world last year, has been signed up by Macmillan Children's Books.
Halliwell branded the heroine of her books, nine-year-old Ugenia Lavender, "the rebirth of Girl Power".
The flame-haired former pop star cites Oscar Wilde, CS Lewis and Enid Blyton as her literary influences. The Ugenia Lavender books will include characters like an intimating princess called Posh Vatoria and a fiery chef known as Uncle Gordon.
Halliwell said: "One of the greatest gifts in life is actually to love what you do. For me, writing Ugenia Lavender is one of them. When I write these stories about Ugenia I feel like I'm going on an adventure.
"I hope Ugenia encourages girls and boys to read. But I wouldn't even dream about being the next JK Rowling."
The first Ugenia Lavender book is expected to be published in May 2008. I do hope this is true.

I'm totally going to buy this.
I read this story on ohnotheydidnt, which included a bizarre reference to Geri going back into the studio to "record the theme song". Do children's books generally have a theme song?
Also: "Posh Vatoria"? Oh, Geri.

"the rebirth of Girl Power"
Oh, Geri, don't do yourself down. Surely it never went away?

Six books? I doubt she'll complete the deal. She seems to have the attention span of a goldfish flitting from one thing to another.

I think the ploy of releasing six books in six months is clever- instead of waiting six months of the next one to come out, in which time the child will lose interest, bring them all out together!

Ugenia Lavender sounds like some kind of feminine hygiene product.

It does. Eew.
Surely she won't have such veiled references. The 'fiery chef' Uncle Gordon! and Vatoria!

I think the word Vatoria sounds a bit rude.

I can't wait for these. I truly love Geri, and not in an Ironic Uni Student way either.
Ugenia sounds amazing , although she does look a bit Cartoon Network-y.
I love the sound of the little asian lad who thinks everything is fabulous. Trust Geri to put a flaming queen in one of her books. I really like the sound all of the pop culture references, Posh Vatoria and Davey Bockhem, Uncle Gordon et al.
And haven't we all, at some point in our life, thought that new clothes - whether or not they're red trainers - would make us extra special superstars? And come down with the Lovely Illness?
Just me then...
And Ugenia's mother asking her what she wants, what she really, really wants is pure brilliance.

Please tell me you've all heard the Ugenia Lavender theme tune? It's a cross between Heaven & Hell (Being Geri Halliwell) and Alfie by Lily Allen. I imagine it gives more of an insight into Geri's mind than any of her previous work. It's amazing. It's ingenious. It's incredible. Right? Go here: www.ugenialavender.com an click on karaoke. You won't be disappointed.

Words... fail... me And ZOMG at the 'Ugenia says' bit, full of words of wisdom. Ingenious... right? There is something very, very, very dark about the phrase "The truth always comes out in the wash!". What could it refer to? What has Ms Halliwell/Ugenia been up to?

Ugenia Says: "Even aliens make nice neighbours."
Good to know where Geri stands on immigration issues.
EDIT: Even better, Geri is once again playing to the gay market.
Ugenia Says: "The path of true love never runs straight."

Ugenia Says: "The path of true love never runs straight." Good Geri, paying attention in those Creative Writing classes. "The path of true love never runs smooth" is such a cliche. By changing the last word, you've made it entirely original! Bravo!
