Anyone play this at school?
It was the Charlie + The Chocolate Factory of Acorn computer games.
You'd be doing so well and suddenly a terrifying witch would appear and make you shit your pants
I only completed it when I downloaded it with an emulator a year ago and it still took me half hour and I needed pen and paper.
I'm so shit at computer games

I loved this! The puzzle with those dragons and giving them the right collars was a bitch. I completed it though. I was eight.

Did every school in the country own this? We used to fight over playing this in Juniors it was fantastic and if you completed it in the half hour you had allocated for "computer time" you were the official legend of the class, and the Wizard of Oz too for the acorn. You always used to get killed my the field of flowers in that.

Playing old games is great, but that's another thread...

I downloaded it onto my computer the other month and finally got through it. With a pen and paper, and cheats off the internet. The bit where you've got to get through certain parts of the forest using certain bits from other parts is very hard.
Plus the ear-bleedingly loud music that comes on at the beginning, meaning that everyone else in the school library knew that you were getting your turn on it. NER NER NER NER-NER NER NER NER NER NER-NER NER NER...

The fear! All your posts just make me think I have been sent home at once.
And why does the blue raven take so long to go from the top left to the bottom right of the screen, eh?

ooh! slander.
Bought 'The Law of the Playground' today by a certain Mr.Log who runs the ace site 'Disappointment.com'
it includes this:
Granny's Garden
An early educational computer game, used in schools to promote learning without human interaction. The initial opening, as with all games, usually ran like this... 'Hello, what is your name? >FUCK What do you want to do now,FUCK? >yes please ...after which you would be subjected to a series of puzzles. Such as finding a house with the word FIG painted on the side.... There is a secret word on the house. Do you know what it is? >KNOB No, that's not it >COCK No, the word on the house is in big blue letters >SHIT No, the word is FIG >BUM No, the word is FIG Free will has always been stifled in children, as a matter of guidance and protection. Granny's Garden echoed this admirably: Can you see a cave? >NO yes you can.Do you want to go in the cave? >NO Yes you do.
A triumph of interactivity.
I remember similar dialogue myself.
Sigh

That was nothing on Pod
Pod was a tomato type thing and you gave him commands to see what he could do
Pod can fuck >I do not know how to fuck Pod can piss >I do not know how to piss
It's hours of fun when you're under 12 to put loads of naughty words into educational games It has a lessened appeal now, but writing 'BOOBS', 'WILLY', 'BUM' and 'MINGE' on bus shelters is still hilarious
