With the supposedly ultra scary DOOM 3 due out next week, what is the scariest game experience you've ever had?
Mine was playing Alien V Predator on the PC as a Marine in the dark. You run down a tunnel and the alien detector beeps faster and faster and faster until the alien on the radar is right on top of you- but you can't see it.
Then you get this terrible sinking feeling, run away as BOOM- a bunch of aliens shoot out of the celing. You blow the shit out of them but their acid blood is going everywhere and eventually you get your head bitten off.
And you shit your pants.
Outside of that, when those little bastard things jump at you in Half Life never fails to make me jump so I seek out retribution with a crowbar repeatedly. Bastards.
So what made you shit you pants while playing a game?

Silent Hill! That game is some freaky shit. I agree. I sat watching my then boyfriend play this and we were both very agitated and scared. The bit where the locker is rattling on the "evil side" and I was going " Don't open it! Don't open it!", because opening it on the "nice side" had made us shit ourselves when the cat jumped out. Duke Nukem on N64 used to scare me too. I would be at a door and I could hear things on the other side moaning " die human..." and I just didn't want to open it. I get very easily scared by games. But I like it. Looking forward to Resident Evil 4 on Gamecube.

Alien Resurrection on the PlayStation is utterly terrifying. So was the first Doom. My scariest videogame moment ever involved Tomb Raider, but it wasn't so much the game as the fire alarm that went off just as I was opening a door. The sound of the (first) killer robot on Exile on the BBC Micro used to give me chills.
But the most frightening game I've ever played, by some margin, is Fatal Frame / Project Zero on the PS2. It's a survival horror game, but there aren't any guns, nor guts, nor clinically detailed evisceration. You walk around an old mansion and take pictures of ghosts. It is not particularly well scripted, and I'd imagine the english dubbing is appalling (if there is any - I played the Japanese version, I think). But it is psychologically shattering from start to finish.
It sold fuck all, obviously, so you can probably pick it up in a bargain bin for a tenner.

I picked up for the X-Box a good few months ago on Mr Ste's recommendation and he is quite correct, even though I haven't got anywhere near finishing it. I think it's the use of mirrors that really fuck you up.

I get scared in any game. I nearly shit myself in Zelda:A Link To The Past on SNES when some guards came.

Call of Duty isn't all that real until you get the mod which sparates heads and limbs from torsos when explosions happen.
Scariest game moment? AvP for me as well, wandering around with the night vison on, no alien detector activated and one of the little bastards jumps out at you. Have some lead you shit.

The resident evil games are pretty scary when you are sat in the dark at 3am.
I have heard that silent hill is even worse - but havent as yet had the pleasure.

I'm afraid to say I cacked myself during the first level of Aliens vs Predator and was too scared to play the rest of the game. I thought theres no way I am doing that for another twenty hours or whatever.

Barbie Detective. Either the bit where you see the masked criminal in the entrance to the Helter Skelter and you have to follow him down the slide or when you see him loitering as you are going through the Tunnel of Love. *Eek*

Clive Barker's Undying. Visually the fear level is the same as most of the horror style games but it has the best, accurate and most terrifying audio ever.

Only two games have ever produced a "brown pants" moment. The first was in "Alien Vs. Predator" when you're playing as the Marine. It was so immersive and atmospheric that at times I would cower in a corner room and pluck up the courage to go steaming in with the intention of obliterating anything that looked at me the wrong way. This rarely paid off. I also liked the sounds that were lifted from the films, such as the motion tracking sound and the assault rifle noise. Excellent game, they really should make a third one.
The other game is "Silent Hill". I hated walking around the abandoned hospital and hearing sounds in the distance and not knowing if it was going to be some little beastie or if it was pure ambience. Apparently they utilised inaudible frequencies in "Silent Hill 2" to heighten the awareness of the player, not sure how well it worked but it's still a quality idea.
And there is just that one bit in the original "Tomb Raider" when the T-Rex appears. I used to cack my pants and try to run for the safety of the cave as soon as I saw the screen rumbling. It was a bit of a tame fight but the sentiment to scare you was there...
