More Chris Moyles? More Fearne and Reggie? Dick and Dom? KELLY OSBOURNE BEING AN AGONY AUNT? FOR TEENAGERS?
See, this is why the youth of today are what they are.

I'm beginning to wonder if I don't live in a parallel universe to the people at Radio 1. Obviously they all live in a universe in which Chris Moyles isn't a self-obsessed, drivelling, tasteless and obnoxious cunt.
It was always going to be [Girls Aloud dance] just a matter of time [/Girls Aloud Dance] until J K and Joel got the boot. They stank of local commercial radio from the moment they joined. I'm baffled as to why they were ever hired in the first place.
Oh, and will someone also explain to me what the point of Kelly Osbourne is and why she gets work?

Oh, and will someone also explain to me what the point of Kelly Osbourne is and why she gets work? You're a teen with a problem. You call up the Sunday Surgery to vent your problem. Kelly Osbourne answers. You realise that you're not Kelly Osbourne. Suddenly you feel better about yourself. (Actually I really quite like Kelly. Though that may be for the above reasons.)

Bugger. They seem to have gotten rid of Vernon Kay's Sunday morning show, which features an hour of really really great old tunes. I don't much like Vernonr Kay but I love that show.
And Fearne can bugger right off.

Fearne and Reggie are awful. And I imagine Dick and Dom will be too. Stick to the fucking kids, and stay off of the radio! (*double-checks the word order in that last sentence*) On the plus side the new early breakfast presenter is Greg James. He seems like a nice chap, and is quite cute (despite appearing to have borrowed some of Richard Hammond's facial expressions). I'm not sure thats necessarily much of a reason to listen to a radio show, but hey ho...

I had to read that sentence twice for fear of triggering nightmares. *shudder*

He is clearly all of these things, and they can't not know that (can they?), but his listening figures keep going up. Clearly there are just an awful lot of people out there who are into aural masochism.

Lordy. That really is bad. To be fair though, i stopped listening to most of it after Mark & Lard left.
I do occasionally have to endure it at work though. Fearne is dreadful. She clearly has no idea what she is talking about and just quotes what others say. I remember one phone-in where she was talking to some contestant about 24, saying it was a great show and she was addicted to it. She asked who his favourite character was, he replied "Jack" and she asked "Which ones that?"
Kelly will be car-crash. I imagine she'll turn every problem into a tale about herself.
I agree with Rad about Vernon - his show played great stuff.

It's 10 years this week since Mark and Lard were fired from the breakfast show and I've not listened to Radio 1 since. I believe that Radio1 are now aiming themselves at listeners who are aged 21 and under.

My sister actually likes Chris Moyles. She thinks I'm a bit odd because I won't listen to Radio One if I can help it.
Then again, she's the one whose knowledge of current affairs is based on Newsbeat.

I really feel sorry for people who like radio 1. It's not snobbery or anything, just pity for their pedestrian, generic taste.

EDIT: Actually, it probably is snobbery.

I don't hate Radio 1 in general. Just a lot of the stuff on it. Mark and Lard were one of my favourite things ever. I downloaded their final show ever the other week (you can get it here). It made me all melancholy - they were far too great for Radio 1 really...

Did they force the station into emergency mode by being silent for the last 30 seconds ish? My memories are hazy due to the tears I was shedding at the time. Even though I'm in my twenties (just) I'm usually in bed for 8pm to listen to Mark on Radio 2 - I'm definitely getting old before my time.

Yeah, after the last "stop!...", they didn't hit the switch to let London take over (cos Mark and Lard were in Manchester), so the station went off air, and the emergency procedures were activated. It saved the nation from at least 2 or 3 minutes of Sara Cox, so it was a beautiful final gesture.
My favourite stunt they pulled was when they repeatedly (like 5 times in a 2 hour show) told the same anecdote about the Sugababes and then played their first song, Overload. With no comment or anything afterwards. Class.
