If Lowculture forums had control of the musical universe and the time space continuum, things would obviously be rather ace. We could change the course of pop history, eradicate any memory of Sandi Thom and bring back Daphne & Celeste.
Which song do you think would have been better if it had been released by another act? Who would you pick to improve it in this new universe?
For starters:
* Kylie's 2 Hearts - Sam Sparro or Robyn * Shayne Ward's If That's Ok With You - A Teens * Starship's We Built This City - Girls Aloud
PLEASE NOTE THIS IS NOT A DECLARATION OF SUPPORT FOR JO FUCKING WHILEY/THE LIVE LOUNGE

I am desperate to hear Girls Aloud sing Belinda Carlisle's 'Big Scary Animal', and Will Young sing Diana King's 'Shy Guy'.

* Kylie's 2 Hearts - Sam Sparro or Robyn I don't think anyone could make this turd of a song any better. It is quite possibly my least favourite Kylie song ever released. I always imagined Britney's comeback sound to be more like Maragret Berger's Get Physical. Gimme More was quite a tune though.

Britney should have done 'Sweet Dreams My LA Ex'. It was wasted on StevensBint.

Kelly Clarkson should have done 'Unfaithful'.

Oh Steven, you are so right. I love the song but Rihanna's nasally voice is totally wrong for that (although totally right for something like Umbrella).

I was looking at my mums Radio 1 cd with loads of naff covers on it, but it has a really good Amy Winehouse cover of Cupid by Johnny Nash - but I read it as Johnny Cash at first and I thought, "wow, what a fantastic Johnny Cash song, how come I've not heard this before". It would be SO better if Cash had done it.

That Amy Winehouse song is on the extra CD of Back to Black I think. Fantastic.

Kelly Clarkson should have done 'Unfaithful'. I've always thought it should have been Brandy. Much as I like the Clarkson, I still think so. Danity Kane's Pretty Boy should have been Britney's comeback single. Listen to it and tell me I'm wrong. Britney should also have done Forbidden Fruit, the one and only decent song Jessica Simpson has ever recorded. Girls Aloud could have done a great cover of Voice Of The Beehive's Don't Call Me Baby, but it should have been on the first album. The boat's kind of sailed on the idea now. Since someone brought up Rachel Stevens - I remember listening to Come And Get It and mentally re-assigning most of the songs on there. So Good would have gone to Kylie, I Said Never Again to Girls Aloud, Negotiate With Love to Sophie Ellis-Bextor, I Will Be There to St Etienne, All About Me to Sugababes, Secret Garden to Annie. This is a great thread. I imagine I'll think of more to add to it..

Totally agree re: the Stevens, that's made me want to dig out my copy of the album.
I Eat Cannibal, while obviously amazing, would also have worked for the Aloud

I know I bleat on about her far too much on here but I think Geri's Desire would have done far better had it been released by Goldfrapp. It was only the connection with her that caused it to flop.
I think Sophie Ellis-Bextor should have been given Stevens Come & Get It album, though I Said Never Again should have been given to Girls Aloud. (Am I right in thinking that Some Girls was meant for the Aloud but then given to Stevens once Richard X realised their second album would be solely Xenomania? This is one example where I'm glad it wasn't. I think Nadine's voice would have ruined it. And am I the only one who thinks it sounds very Blondie?)

Hazell Dean should have recorded Pet Shop Boys' Heart, as planned.
And I wish Dannii had done S Club Junior's New Direction, and given the video a Justify My Loveesque lesbitheme. As great as New Direction is, the lyrics were wasted on pre teen girls.
And regarding cover versions, I know Girls Aloud's ballad covers aren't too popular, but The Bee Gee's For Whom The Bell Tolls would be perfect. I even know who is going to sing which part.

I said exactly the same thing at the time. The best song she's done but people finally decided she was 'over'. And ditto 'New Direction' - songs that would have done much better, chartwise, had they been sung by different people.
