I did a quick YouTube for scenes from my favourite soaps and this undeniable gem, from ITV Whipping Soap Night & Day, was emerged.
Some mahogany standard acting without doubt!

I fucking loved Night and Day. Wasn't that the point at which Mad Aunt Rachel became completely obsessed with Tom because she'd seen his giant cock?

I think so. And a school teacher as well. I love how Dame Lesley Joseph OBE is always cast as a semi-paediphic woman obsessed with her young neighbours. Just look at Dorian in Birds Of A Feather

Frankie cannot act to save her life can she!
She's less Sylvia Young more Sylvia Barrie

Frankie was terrible, yes. Though it was amazing when the scriptwriters realised this and turned it to their advantage by making her the fiercely stoic leader of the Virgin Army.

Well Frankie was never going to shine up against such stars as Lesley Joseph.

My God I loved Night And Day. I still love trying to explain it to people. 'A girl went missing because she was screwing her best friend's dad....and then Cathy Tyson was a vicar....and there'd been swaps at birth and it turned out she was actually screwing her dad....and they found her as a geisha....and she'd killed someone...and there was a virginity fairy...and that's the simplified version.'
Plus: Lesley Joseph, Sally Dexter, Lysette Anthony. Calvalcade of stars, right there.

Oh yes, The Dex was in it too.
I don't know why ITV don't bring it back- I mean Emmerdale can't get any more unrealistic. Like Jack & Diane would live in the same house as a Ginger.

I've said it before but Natalie Harper is one of the greatest soap characters of all time. And Sally Dextor's performance of a woman on the razor edge of complete madness was AMAZING. Everytime she appeared on screen you could practically feel the tension of her sanity hanging by a single thread ready to snap, being pushed right to the very end but never quite breaking. Truly formidable.
For as crazy as it all was and some of the plots were a bit hit and miss the charactersations were quite great... even the more thankless characters were fairly well drawn with some thought into who and why they were what they were.
I also think their teenage characters were probably the most believable set of teens tv drama has ever created. If you look past the madness they managed to get the balance of naivity and worldliness spot on, that while they weren't innocent little kids they also weren't the confident, experienced know-it-alls tv drama usually likes to have us believe teenagers are. They were painted as unsure young things slightly fearful of the adult world that approaches which was really quite brilliant

Ah, look how young the Hollyoaks boys were. I vaguely remember this.

What better place for my inaugural message than in the Night & Day thread... the Kylie Minogue theme tune, the possessed fridge, the auto-castration in the grand finale, even Sunset Beach couldn't have done it better... and wasn't that around the time Rug was dating Lulu before he dumped her because they looked like a freakshow together?
