In case you haven't seen this and want to iPlayer it:
Germaine Greer, Vanessa Feltz, Nasty Nick, Pete Bennett, Derek Laud and Aisleyne were debating George Orwell's 1984 on The Culture Show this week.
It was pretty interesting, not least the revelation that Germaine Greer did Celeb BB for the (charity) money.

I saw this and was kind of annoyed by how none of them seemed to want to stick to the brief.
Vanessa just wanted to talk about herself, Germaine and Derek wanted to debate the current "surveillance society", Nick just wanted to score cheap points off Germaine, and Pete said "wankers".
Aisleyne was the only one to really discuss the parallels between the show and the book, which just goes to show that she's still amazing.

I don't think Pete had read the book at all, which stands to reason as he has admitted that he didn't read, nevermind write, his own autobiography. Germaine just has to excuse her own actions every time the CBB matter is raised. I concur, full marks to Ash for actually getting the point of the discussion. |
