Maria, Sarah-Lou, Tracey of Corrie, and all of Emmerdale. SO. SHINY. No-one bothers to wash and straighten their hair to that extent ever single day, especially if they're just going to work in t'factory.
No real contender is 'Enders, though. Must be because it's all too depressing and grim for them to bother conditioning.

Aparently Corrie have given some of them wigs which look like cheap hair cuts, at least according to This Morning, so it must be true. But you're right. Chloe in Emmerdale being an extreme example, and even 'rough and ready' Chastity. Conversely, Charity who is supposed to be loaded, has apalling hair.

Corrie actresses in particular have always been wigged - it has one of the best wig depts in the business.
A friend of mine has a story of being in the corridor outside Makeup at Granada Studios (where Corrie's filmed) and watching this wizened, hunchbacked old lady hobble into the room. Twenty minutes later and she strides out bold as brass with a huge red wig on - it was Rita.

and they're cousins. I believe there may be a comedy reason for this, but I don't really get it. I think they all have names with vaguely religious connotations (though they don't seem to go for ones like Mary or rachel, oddly)

I think the irony is meant to be that Charity is a money-grubber and Chastity is a slapper.
There really are far too many Dingles these days.

On an Eastenders related note:
Why is Big Mo wearing Pauline Fowler's old wig all of a sudden?
That is all

On a Big Mo related note:
Why does the Radio Times claim that Big Mo is Gary Oldman's sister, and that she liked his performance in Bram Stoker's Dracula so much she had her... foot or something tattoed with 'Dracula'? I'm scared.

Her real name is Maureen Oldman.
Laila Morse is an anagram of (I think) the Italian for "my sister". Which is kind of creepy when you think about it.
