Has got a second series. So now can we discuss Matthew McFadden's extraordinary suits? And his bowler hat.

My favourite character has to be Captain Jackson with all his bawdiness and drinking and being a general arse/amazing forensic doctor. I like the whole vibe as well, doesn't feel very "sanitised." Jerome is good too, just wasn't crazy on his plot the other day although I did think that the idea of old veterans having problems when they get back was very interesting. They seem to have a really good cast and lots of great character actors in each episode.

I'm really enjoying this though I'm not sure why. I like the prostitutes' frocks, and the general ridiculousness of it all. However, the last episode was one of the worst things I've ever seen. I had no idea what was going on as whenever Iain Glen spoke I couldn't concentrate - his character was such a bore who needed to learn that one word is as affective as fifty. And some of the accents are shocking, especially that newspaper fellow. AND I hate all the cack-handed references to technology in the future.
Having said all that, every Sunday I wake up and think 'Yay! Its Ripper Street day!' and have an extra skip in my step. The second episode was the best for me; I loved the evil street children surrounding the orphanage. It was genuinely sinister.

AND I hate all the cack-handed references to technology in the future. 'But Inspector, this will take me days!' 'One day, my boy, there may be machines that can do all that for you in the blink of an eye, but until then get yourself a double espresso from Mrs Costa's Coffee Emporium.'

They were terrifying. The bloke from This is England looked like he was having a hoot as well. I also got really, really, excited to see Hugh O'Connor from Young Poisoner's Handbook looking weirdly the same but also older. I had high hopes he'd become a permanent fixture.

The worst was at the end of episode one. Because a policeman who has just interrupted the almost snuff-killing of a lady is definitely going to stop what he is doing to compliment the accomplice on his loveliness of his camera.

I liked episode three the best, mostly for the part where they thought someone was trying to kill all the gays and they had to go to a molly house to get more information. That was amazing.
