What a strange film. I wouldn't say I didn't enjoy it, but then I don't think it was an especially good film.
The scene with Nicole Kidman in the prison which most reviews have focused on was very uncomfortable to watch but she's a very game actress and I've not been that disgusted by a scene since Gina Gershon devoured some KFC with some encouragement from Matthew Mc in Killer Joe. And the jellyfish scene has one of the best lines in recent cinema. The film suffered when she wasn't on screen.
I've never really seen the point of Zac Efron before, but he should spent more screentime in his underwear. Macy Grey was great as was David Oyelowo.
Can anyone help me with a question regarding Matthew Mc and his motel room adventures? So he wanted some black cock but was what they did to him part of the whole rough sex fantasy or was he tortured against his will? John Cusack mentioned the existing scars he had around his mouth so I wasn't sure if it was something he liked. I fell asleep a couple of times so may have missed something.

I rather enjoyed the film despite some very silly moments, especially in the last half hour. It rather reminded me of The Lincoln Lawyer in some ways. I think it deserves better reviews than it has received but it's so tonally inconsistent that I can see why people might not care for it, I think he liked it rough but it got a bit out of hand.

I assumed the same as Bungle re: the spoiler.
And I concur that it was a very odd film, and I thought the trailers were a bit misleading too. There were bits that were very good (including Zac Efron - and many of the cast, actually) but I didn't really see the point of it overall - it was, as Bungle says, so inconsistent about what it was trying to be.
