The trailer for this is the best thing to be on TV in ages.
I'm quite excited about this. However! Does it matter that I missed the final couple of episodes of the first series?

Probably a little bit. Certainly the last one. BUT! They're repeated on BBC4 at 10:30pm on Monday and Tuesday or next week, so that's that sorted.
The final episode of the first series had a couple of moments that were so completely amazing that I felt a bit sad about not being able to go back and watch it again without knowing what was about to happen this time. Which is sort of the opposite of what happens to Sam in that episode, if you think about it. Mindfucking!

I love the trailer too. How great is it that puppet Gene has a fag in his mouth?
And yeah the final episode was fantastic.

It may matter that you missed the final episode, I don't know if it will be relevant later on. Do you want me to PM you with a brief synopsis? The repeats on BBC3 finished this Tuesday. Also I would advise that you DON'T watch the penultimate episode. I missed it the first time but watched the repeat this week. It is a brilliant episode but I really wish I had never seen it as it has completely changed how I feel about some of the characters.

I seem to be the only person in the UK that didn't enjoy LoM, it just bored me - yet another chuffin cop show with an angle.
Not a patch on the Quinster or Jessica F.

This show is so superb because it works as both nostalgic freak show (yes, it really is authentic) and as riveting drama (how/what/why?etc.) John Simm is, as always, fantastic, but Philip Glenister is so wonderful as Hunt that he outclasses all around him. Can't wait.

Life On Mars back tonight! Can't wait to see what's going down for Sam and Gene. Philip Glennister is a genius...The Guv is my hero. I was12/13 in 1973 and it evokes the era perfectly.

I think the spin off was mentioned in the Guardian interview with John Simm, which also confirmed he'd be playing The Master.

I really enjoyed last night's episode.
Who was the gangster's moll? Was she in Hollyoaks when it first started - Maddie or summat?

The moll was indeed played by Yasmin Bannerman, star of Hollyoaks, Cold Feet, Dr Who and more.

I thought I recognised her from Hollyoaks! For a former Hollyoaks actress she was pretty good although she did deliver one of the most rubbish TV slaps that I have seen for ages.

She must be one of the more successful post-Oaks cast members. She never seems to have a lead role, but she's never off the telly, either.

Yeah, she was looking all Foxy Brown, but then she gave the most feeble slap. Not good. I did love the bit where Sam nearly revealed his secret in front of the team, the look on Annie's face was priceless!

The first episode was fantastic. The second episode was fucking fantastic. If it was good before, how much better is it now that we'll actually know what's going on when it ends? I love Life On Mars so much.
If this was Lost (thank fuck it's not), the internet would be rife with speculation as to what the fuck is going on, especially with these mysterious calls to/from Hyde, and the number that I've forgotten which is probably going to turn out to be significant, unless it's just supposed to look like it's supposed to be significant and isn't at all, in fact. So: what the fuck is going on? Come on, one of you must know.

Did the whole "I'm trying to stop your death before it happens" angle give anyone else flashbacks to Tru Calling? I kept finding myself wondering what would happen if Eliza Dushku got transported back to 1973 and had to dress conservatively for work and put up with everyone calling her "toots".
I loved the twist at the end with the phone call - suddenly everything we thought we knew might be wrong after all. And like Nick said, that's so much more fun when you know you're actually going to get a damn answer in seven episodes' time, one way or another.

It's just Dalziel and Pascoe (one does it by the book and the other one doesn't and is a miserable bastard) but with flares. And in case you didn't get that John Simms 'does it by the book', they actually said it a good 5 or 6 times in the first ten minutes so you'd understand when they cleverly subverted their own character traits later on in the ep (when Hunt starts 'doing it by the book' and nancy boy gets naughty). I'm sorry but it annoyed me.

Having only seen the first episode of the first series previously, I enjoyed this. Not for the 1970s stuff, but for the weird 'Odyssey' like shit with the phonecall and voices.

most obvious twist. ever. and didn't understand the business with auntie heather. but the swingers party was amusing, as was the use of the m&s food porn music.

I don't care if the twist was obvious, this is probably the only "appointment" telly I have at the moment. Last night was amazing, I kept exclaiming about things. Shame we didn't get to see any Gene Hunt bedroom action though...
