I do suspect that Carphone Warehouse are not entirely driven by taking the moral highground: by NOT advertising they are increasing their popularity and brand awareness. It's the best possible situation to find yourself in. However, at least someone is taking direct action. While the ratings increase will be welcomed at C4, the CBB figures are still lower than last year and now they've lost sponsorship.

Heh. Well, I'm buying my next mobile from Carphone Warehouse, anyway.
News 24 just showed Andy Duncan (C4 chief executive) giving a statement. I shall paraphrase for those who didn't see it.
ANDY DUNCAN: "We still don't know if what's happened really counts as racist behaviour. But the great thing about the show is that the public will decide who wins anyway! Vote for Jade or Shilpa to go out! Watch tonight! Give us money! CHANNEL 4 FTW!"
Or something.

Police have formally recorded the abuse Shilpa Shetty has suffered at the hands of three white Big Brother housemates as a racial incident, MediaGuardian.co.uk can reveal.
The development adds to the pressure Channel 4 faces over the row and further undermines the broadcaster's defence of the onscreen antics that have caused outrage in Britain and India.media.guardian.co.uk/broadcast/story/0,,1993588,00.html These complaints to the police seem to happen every year though, and nothing has ever come of it, so I don't suppose this is too much of a problem for C4 and Endemol.

Well I just saw a repeat of BBLB and it no longer had the carphone warehouse idents before it. I think that maybe it's harder to remove the banner from the website as they will need to get in touch with the web designer etc.

Breaking NewsAfter Carphone Warehouse pulled out of sponsoring Big Brother, it's been announced that Jade Goody's perfume is to be taken off the shelves of The Perfume Shop. I'm just thinking... wow...who could ever have predicted THIS all happening when Jade entered the house. Riots in India, reports in the US, discussions in Parliament, the police, race awareness and anti bullying charities and all because Jade can't keep her gob shut. Last night's viewing really was harrowing. It makes me wonder though if Jade is capable of turning it to her advantage, she still has a lot of support online. But normally these incidents don't lead to record complaints, questions in the house of commons, a statement from the next PM & political uproar in India. Although despite all of that (and the fact it would be marvellous to see Jade greated by the police rather than Davina when she walks out) I doubt anything will come of it.

Yep, it's breaking news on the MG website too. Interesting that this comes in the face of their denials yesterday. It looks like it was last night's show that did it. I'd be interested to know how long they had left on their contract anyway though.

I'd be interested to know how long they had left on their contract anyway though. I think they've had more publicity as a result of pulling out than they would have had from BB continuing with them as sponsor. On a few news shows, the chief executive of carphone warehouse has already appeared. I realise that the main sponsor of the programme means that c4 loses lots of money(depending on how much c4 keeps of the contract agreed with them) but they will doubtless make up this deficit by the amount of money they are getting from all the tv news shows for showing the big brother footage. I assume that each time a news show shows the footage that they have to pay c4.

Riots in India, reports in the US, discussions in Parliament, the police, race awareness and anti bullying charities and all because Jade can't keep her gob shut. It isn't just Jade though, it has been her mother, Jack, Jo and Danielle. I think that, but I'm not certain, Jade has been the most aggressive and the least racist of the group. I'm very much enjoying the irony that Jade's career is ending where it started.

For those of you not watching the live feed (which is being an utter tart at the moment), Jade and Shilpa just talked everything out in the garden. BB had called her in and done the same as with Danielle, and she then went outside and talked to Shilpa. For 45 minutes straight. My fingers are killing from all the transcribing I was doing (I'm on shift at the moment). To my mind, it's too little, too late. Jade said things like:
Jade: "I'm not racist"
Jade: "I said I was going to make a conscious effort to get you involved...it was me and you that had the problem, it was me that thought 'don't just judge her, make an effort'. It was all going fine until we had our big blow up."
Jade: "We live in different worlds, Shilpa... You sat here and said to me that in your world, you're looked up to as a god. You said that to me. Nobody would ever dare say that to me."
Shilpa: "Where do you get this from, this princess thing?" Jade: "You said you were looked up to as a god in our own country!" Shilpa: "Actors are looked up to as gods. I said ACTORS are eulogised. That's the way it is in our country."
Jade: "I'm not spiteful and I'm not on purposely nasty."
Too late, Jade. Things are already going from bad to worse on the outside, and I think maybe she's starting to realise how seriously her behaviour (even if she wasn't being racist) is being reacted to. I hate how she tried to justify her actions, and I hate how she talks bollocks about how she said this, that and the other and didn't really mean any of it.
Whereas Jade might have realised what effect this will have on her popularity on the outside, I certainly don't think the less prominent Danielle and Jo have a clue. And why hasn't Jo been pulled up on her behaviour?

Surely BB when Jade was in the diary room for the interminable time told her that she had to sound apologetic so they could do a nice highlights package 'Jade isn't racist.' I think it's far too late for her to say this, Tuesday it might have been ok but it's just far beyond that damage limitation now.

Quite. That's what I meant by the Danielle remark. It's utterly ridiculous. Jade wouldn't even have THOUGHT to apologise to Shilpa if BB hadn't briefed her to. She loves being the queen of BB.
Oh yeah, and by the way, during the conversation Shilpa cried a little, as everything was getting too much. Do you feel big now, Jade? Proud of yourself?

Jade really doesn't understand what Shilpa said re the claim to fame. Marvellous!
And now she's CRYING because she has to NOMINATE someone other than Shilpa. Poor love, needs a hug.

OK, I've not been watching this because I can't stand it, so what's actually been said or done that's racist? Telling someone to go back home could be construed as racist, sure, but also could be said to anyone in the BB house, depending on the context in which it was said. Holy Moly had a clip of Jack whispering the word 'Paki' to Jade but you couldn't really make it out. Germaine Grwwr has an interesting piece here: www.guardian.co.uk/g2/story/0,,1991890,00.html This is basically the same level of bullying, if not less, than Grace took part in and yet no-one was up in arms then (Lowculture excepted!). Is bullying behaviour acceptable as long as no mentions are made to race? What about referring to different cultures? The worst thing is Ch4 can only win over this.

For fuck's sake. Just watching the end of tonight's C4 programme, and this WHOLE THING is SO FUCKING STAGED. I've watched about three hours of this series, and don't pretend to be an expert on any of these group dynamics, but I can tell when people aren't speaking naturally.

Erm, so there are two people up for nomination, so how do we fucking nominate? Good question, what was all that about? Why no names and numbers to vote at the end? Maybe something big is about to happen. Will they cancel the show in light of what's happened?

Haven't people/websites/whatever cited 'legal reasons' before for having to display all of the phone numbers?
Wonder what they are - it's not like it's an election.

Well you can certainly vote now.
I know I've previously said I will not vote in BB ever again, but I've swallowed my pride and voted for Jade to go. I just have a concern that if evicted, BB have already demonstrated that they can do what they like and could send her back in, though, of course, they wont. Instead, there is a real risk that their resources will be devoted to saving Jade's "career". Step forward Davina/Dermot/Russell, all of whom should know better.

ALL proceeds go to charity so anyone boycotting this because they don't want to give money to Endemol don't need to worry. Besides, we need to get Jade out. The lines ARE open as I have already voted:

They're having a heated debate on Question Time.
Shami Chakrabati didn't like it at all when Edwina Currie called Jo, Jade and Danielle slags.
