The turkish goal keeper was just delicious! I hope they make it to the semi-finals so i can see him again.

Call me unpatriotic (it will be nicer than "emo!", which a little shit called me in town yesterday), but it really is absolutely WONDERFUL that England didn't qualify for this this year. It's so nice to be without the flags and the casual racism and everybody talking about Euro 2008 and nothing else (even when they don't like football the rest of the time), and then hating on some scapegoated footballer when 'we' get knocked out in the second round.
When are the World Cup qualifying matches? I shall start hexing for them.

Hurrah. Turkey, my sweepstakies, got through. They next play Croatia, and I have a dilemma - whether to go watch the match with Turks to support my sweepstakers, or with hot, tall, burly Croatian types. Dilemma!I've had great fun thus far watching with the Italians, the Dutch, the Greeks and the Swiss. Tonight, it's the Austrians. Look at them! How much fun.

I do like being an honorary Romanian, because they're still in it despite being in the group of death, and I'd completely forgotten how lovely Adrian Mutu is. And it would be very nice if they qualified at the expense of both World Cup finalists from 2 years ago.
The Swedes are all beautiful though aren't they - quelle surprise

A rather girlish synopsis for you: Italy weren't exactly crap, they just seemed very unprepared. They really didn't offer much when attacking. I don't usually cheer when a team loses, but I'll happily make the exception for Italy. They've brought nothing to this tournament apart from their exemplary diving skills and a highly developed sense of personal entitlement. I believe their manager made some comment about Holland 'lying down' to Romania in the final game so that they and France would go out. I seriously hope he's right.

So 16 become 8, and my home page column prediction is still on course. Bad luck to the losing sweepstakees, especially Coxy. At least those pesky Italians will be without Pirlo and Gattuso when they play Spain next week. The hot Turkish goalkeeper received a two match ban for pushing the tall bald man over, so he'll only get to show off his big arms again if Turkey get to the final. And in Lucas Podolski, has there ever been a hot blond boy for whom going down too easily is to be discouraged? I've actually enjoyed this a lot more without England being in it - there's no anxiety to worry about and no impending sense of disappointment. I think that's why the French don't mind too much about being so crap this year, seeing as all the retiring players won in 2000, and some of them the World Cup in 1998.

In other footie news, semi-fit pundit Gavin Peacock is leaving the Match Of The Day studios, to study divinity.
On last night's highlights, he described how he hoped to discover what denomination he would fall under during his studies, and that he'd become a man of the cloth in due course.
It was all rather bizarre.

I'm upset Portugal are out. They were a lot fitter than the Germans.
I hate having the footie on itv. They cut to an ad break before the players take their shirts off. What is the point in that.

Damn you Adrian.
Unrelated, but one of the Croatian penalty-missers (the slightly Celtic looking one) looked horribly like one of my former unrequited crushes. Still, I will miss Slaven Bilic's shiny grey suit and will need another national team coach to have inappropriate crushes on.

Damn the Turks - Croatia were much better! I wanted to go support Turkey with Turks tonight, but had a right palaver - click here for details blog fans. I became Croatian instead, and they were much more deserving of victory. For inappropriate manager crushes, I was about to suggest Marco van Basten, but he's not who I think he is.

I was pro Turkey last night; I'd sort of like the final to be between a couple of slightly odd underdog teams (like last time's Greece v Portugal) - it makes it much more interesting. Turkey v Russia would suit me down to the ground. I suppose it'll be Germany v Spain, though.

Usually I love penalties (provided it's not England) but last night it seemed cruel, especially when the young Croatian player was sat on the floor crying afterwards.
Germany-Turkey will be a good semi-final and hopefully the Dutch and Spanish teams will get to the other semi-final and produce the most attractive match yet. The Dutch have been been fantastic to watch, like Arsenal at their best and the Spanish haven't been far behind.
And did anyone like the hot referee last night? He's Italian Roberto Rosetti, 40, 6'3, extra large and active/versatile. Actually I lied about his last two qualities but I can hope.

Still, I will miss Slaven Bilic's shiny grey suit and will need another national team coach to have inappropriate crushes on. I was starting to get a bit concerned about that suit. He seemed to wear it to every match and it really was very cheap looking. He probably spent all his money on that amazingly bling earring. I quite like Joachim (?) Low, the German coach. He's only alright looking really but he just strikes me as a bit of a cool dude.

I'm not usually much of a fan of The Footie, but I really enjoyed watching the end of the Croatia-Turkey game in between the BB shows last night. I was supporting Turkey in the penalties, even though Croatia had cuter players, cos that was a wonderful comeback goal they scored.
Blondish Croatia player was fit though.
Come on The Turkey in the The Footie!

When Bilic was wandering around the pitch before the match started he'd taken his jacket off and had the most fantastic arse. Really very impressive, but then suit trousers often have a habit of doing that to already firm buttocks. Not keen on the earring though. And Mr Low is indeed very nice, although I wish he'd a darker shirt as everytime they showed him celebrating a German goal from the little tv room he raised his arms and there were big sweat stains. Tonight we have Adrian's favourite Robin van Pepsi against those pesky Russians, the hottest of whom looks like a cross eyed Bel Ami boy.

Who was it here that described Euro 2008 as Eurovision for straights?
If this was Eurovision, Terry Wogan would be talking about an Eastern bloc/slightly-less-than-talismanic Western European footballing nations conspiracy right now. Thankfully, Terry Wogan is not a football commentator and so well done Russia.

Hurrah for Spain - Spain for the win now!

The joy of Cesc is a beautiful thing to witness. I do like Spain and their players and their style of play, but the way they dealt with the racial incident with the manager was disgraceful, and I don't want him to win anything. So it's Germany and Crazy Jens who'll be getting my support, at least for now.
